I plan on majoring in Computer Science next year. Which programming language should I start to learn, or try to get a strong grasp on before then. I've heard it's mainly Java/C++ so idk. it's either Computer Science or Computer Programming. I live on the east coast of the US, so there's not quite as many opportunities for an upcoming programmer out here. it's basically learn yourself, or don't learn at all. If you can help that'd be great.

Depends on what your college starts you off on. For me they made me start on python. Java is a bit easier than C++ so I recommend you start learning java. Look up this channel on youtube: thenewboston. He has great tutorials on all of these programming languages and is better at teaching it than some of my professors.

For me I tend to learn things backwards and went from C++ to Java to Python and now I'm back at Java again.

Thanks for the help! He taught me a little bit of the C++ I know. Just the basics though. I'll take all the advice from all these comments, thanks guys! :flowers

i have learned 3 languages in the past even though computers is not my field.
i learned html,c++ and java.
html is pretty easy to understand.
the main problem starts with c++
java and c++ are pretty much similar .

so my suggestion would be c++

I finished programming. and I recommend you to remaster visual basic net. making software such as connecting VB.net to SQL or MS Access as a database is what big companies are haunting. like banking company. making a perfect software solution is to know VB. +CC is for DOS while JAVA is for games. PHP is good but I don't like it. so VB is the best choice of programmer to rely on when it comes to languages. theres a lot of tutorials in youtube. I'm sure it will be easier for especially you are taking up Programming too under Comsci so try to learn how to master the VB langauge.
