Why are people still trying this? The 3rd hokage was the strongest to ever live. Made quite simple by his nickname "god of shinobi" as well as the fact that he has been called the strongest hokage. So that instantly removes the first from discussion

what's your point , edo isn't alive , being an edo means you are already dead , and the first is the reason madara is dead , but still we don't know if the 3rd surpased him , even though he took the 1st and 2nd while they were immortal and he was old
but in the end naruto and sasuke will surpass them all

Didn't Iruka say that the 3rd was the strongest Hokage ever? I personally haven't heard it anywhere else so if you have please tell me. I see the 3rd being the strongest ever as heresay at this point.

First hokage was as strong as a regular kage without his bijuu.
We don't even know if madara had the rinnegan when he fought the first, and by the way the plot is twisting, madara might have thrown that fight or could even have been a good guy.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. He had that nickname because he was a man known to master every single standard technique in the leaf. And by standard, I mean the techniques that don't fall in the Kekkei Genkai spectrum.
