Snakes are a summoning creature in the NV, and choice summon of one of the three sannin Orochimaru, and also Sasuke. They have been shown to be vary formidable in battle. Whether it was by overwhelming force, or great agility, snakes were able to give their owner a serious edge in battle. Some notable summons are Manda and Aoi...i think its Aoi...
In the natural, snakes have shown the ability to have a lethal combination of speed and power. They have shown the ability to swim, as well as gain an advantage with venomous capabilities.

The venom part is true but they have other stuff Ill list them
1) They have different types of sensing
Smell: The user use smell to track their prey. They smell by using their forked tongues to collect airborne particles, then passing them to the vomeronasal organ or Jacobson's organ in the mouth for examination. The fork in the tongue gives snakes a sort of directional sense of smell and taste simultaneously. They keep their tongues constantly in motion, sampling particles from the air, ground, and water, analyzing the chemicals found, and determining the presence of prey or predators in the local environment. In water-dwelling snakes (which the user also has access to), such as the anaconda, the tongue functions efficiently under water.
Eyesight: Snake vision varies greatly, from only being able to distinguish light from dark to keen eyesight, but the main trend is that their vision is adequate although not sharp, and allows them to track movements.
Infrared sensitivity: The user will have infrared-sensitive receptors in deep grooves on the snout, which allow them to "see" the radiated heat of warm-blooded prey mammals.
Vibration sensitivity: The part of the body in direct contact with the ground is very sensitive to vibration; thus, the snake can sense other animals approaching by detecting faint vibrations in the air and on the ground.
2) Their scales can be sued for defensive purpose protecting you and you could create cjs using them. The scales could also be shed so that the snakes wont take full damage (if the summon abilitiy ahs that)
3) You can create cjs that use snakes coming out of your body or having snakes being summoned which the ones out of the body are faster.

The user will summon a generic Giant Snake whose size can vary from a 10 meter long snake to ones the size of a boss summon, rivaling 100 meters long. These snakes vary in appearance and size and serve only as basic warriors, having only the normal characteristics of snakes. Although they are quite simple snakes, they are very enduring and resistant and, when big enough (about 50 meters long) they can take up to B-Rank damage.
Note: requires snake contract.

Do the summoning hand seals and wipe blood on your tattoo and summon a small snake. Keep doing it again and again till you summon a 100 meter long snake U:U Very basic snake you could do what Sasuke did to Manda and use this for scarfice to protect yourself xD This snake doesnt have any poison so dont expect to be poison people.
Awesome tatoo. ^^ (right shoulder). I do the summoning handseals and draw blood which is wiped across my tatoo for the snake summonings. The result is a small snake that slithers about. Realizing I need to summon something much bigger I continue to repeat the summoning ritual as progress is gradually seen. However, I do not have an endless amount of blood so I begin to concentrate even more. Finally, after much pain and exhaustion, I summon a 100 meter long snake. 0_0

Good remember these are generic snakes that dont have much abilities. Now if you do something like Shady did where instead of generic snakes you replace them with a species of snakes than you will be in business ^^
(Kuchiyose no Jutsu: Sōtōja) - Summoning Technique: Dual Headed Snakes

Description:
The user summons a double-headed, snake to attack his enemies. The snake is not big but is very fast and dangerous. Its bite carries a B-Rank physical damage and its body is small and slippery. Its mass is somewhat larger than the user but not by much.

Basically summon a double headed snake that is kinda small but bigger than you. This was the summoning used by one of Hiruko's henchmen in a Naruto movie. This snake is needed for a snake ninjutsu you will learn in the future. This snake is more of a speed and strike than a giant and blunt damage snake and can be slippery to catch. Let me ask you besides the one jutsu how would you use this snake yourself?
