It really doesn't.

Theoretically it shows how much experience someone has on here, more accurately than a join date can show. But as you can see in this thread, that is easily faked.

Apart for more rep power and the cooler post rank, it doesn't.

You for example joined at a time where the site is not all that active. You don't know how easy was to get posts back in the day.

Not just that, there were double the amount of people there are now. Which means more threads = more posts. And of course Forum Games.

Just something people do. I used to spam for post count, but I stopped when I hit 15k. Now I occasionally post in the FG for PC, but that's rare.
