The Uchiha were loyal and did what was asked of them. Nobody was anyone's play-thing, the Senju Hokage's just moved the Uchiha's around the village. Beyond that, nothing else really happened. Obito was playing a character, he was playing Madara; the bitter Uchiha paranoid of the Senju's schemes. In fact, the Senju dissipated, so how could they have a play-thing is they don't exist?
But what I find entertaining is how a clan of people can use one another as servants and fry each other's brains without an inch of remorse in their heart. Going so far as to seal their own kin, to use them as servants. Only an insecure clan that has an inferiority complex would do something like that. Neji committed suicide, he wanted to be free from fate. The fact that he hated the main household so much was evidence of how disgusting the Hyuga's are to their own.

Sorry, all the clans participated in the warring states, and the Hyuga were unable to topple the Uchiha Clan. Mind you, this conflict went on for hundreds of years, excuses about "nerfing" means nothing because honestly, the jutsu's reserved for the main house aren't really all that impressive or scary.
In a war era, if you're response to ranged attacks is rotation all the time, then people will just keep their distance and fire at you until you run out of chakra, and no one's going to sit there and let you hit their chakra points either. This ridiculous idea that by somehow making all of the Hyuga privy to the main-house jutsu's will make them better than the Uchiha is funny. They limit themselves to their taijutsu style which is why they will always lose.

At the end I noted that giving the branch house main house abilities won't change anything, meaning that they still can't topple the Konoha Era Uchiha Clan. No one will sit there and watch you form a pose and attack, and rotating to defend yourself the whole time won't bring any victory. We already saw what can happen to a Hyuga when someone knows how to properly deal with them, ahem, Neji Kidomaru.
Itachi, Shisui, and Fugaku are already going to neg the majority of your favorite clan.
