is the most enjoyable, longest lasting, and customization-crazy video game I have ever played.
Your thoughts on this game?

Are you a troll?

Didn't like the game...very linear, no depth of story with minor character development. It only had visuals going for them and the music I guess. The story felt like a watered down version of FFX with the whole religious aspect and everything...I don't even understand how they come out with spin-offs.

Hahaha! You think XIII is the standard by which the series is held up to?

I mean, it's good, but compared to the older ones? Not really. Although I will agree it's my favorite setting of the FFs

I challenge you to play the older ones (X is having an HD remake) and measure the standard from there.

JRPGs are some of my favorite games, FF was my top for a while but I now prefer other series...

Yeah, that one. Wow. That means we have completely different taste and preferences. That's cool though.

I mean the graphics were great but the only cool character was the guy with the afro. I did play FFXIII-2 and loved it, except for the story being cheezy as hell at times, i thought it was much better than the original. You should pick it up if you haven't already.

I don't know why people hate it. I loved it. Then again, it was my first FF game lol.

I loved this game. I was only on disc 2 though, and then my brother sold it. I rented FF XIII-2 and got pretty far in it, but I couldn't beat it in two days.

Long, yes. Enjoyable, yes. Not a lot of customization, though. I like the weapon upgrade feature in XIII, but they removed it in XIII-2. I can't wait for XIII-3, though. It looks amazing, imo.

It's definitely not my most favorite FF game but I like Lighting and the battle system and graphics were cool. The story and other characters besides lighting were so boring though compared to other FF games.

It's a really underrated game in the series, mostly because people try to compare it to games that came out decades ago. Things change drastically as time goes on, so it's pointless to expect the same formula in every FF title. It's not the best FF game ever, though it's a bit close-minded to hate on it because it tried something different.

For what it was, I enjoyed it. Sure, it was a bit too linear up until Disc 3 and didn't feel much like a Final Fantasy game, but it was still fantastic. The story was decent, the soundtrack was memorable and on-par with Nobuo Uematsu's work, and the overall visuals were appealing. A few of the characters were annoying, though I became attached to them by the end of the game.

The battle system takes a bit of getting used to, though it's way more engaging and intense than the turn-based gameplay from older games. My only complaint was that you can't control the rest of your party, but the AI was competent enough to make this a minor peeve.

Can't say the same for XIII-2, though. It lacked the charm and dedication of the first game, and I would have preferred to play as the original cast again. XIII-3 looks interesting so far, and hopefully it'll amend the mistakes from its predecessor. I'm really digging that SOLDIER costume so far. xD

I can see some of your points, because I'm one of those people that played all the old FF games, and I realize that changes are always going to come. That said the graphics were amazing in FF XIII, but I remember I literally fell asleep one day while playing because I was so bored with the lack of stuff to do and linear play.

If I could tell one thing to the people that design the new FF, it would be that graphics are not the end all be all of games. The plot and exploration in a game are just as important if not more important than the graphics. Games like FF XIII come out when you fail to recognize this fact. It doesn't matter if a book has the best cover in the world if the written content sucks or it only has 2 pages.

Going on a rant here but I think just like every generation before us this generation is less intelligent. With this comes shorter attention spans and less patience. In my opinion the media recognizes this and uses it to their advantage. Hence the focus has shifted to graphics in games. Not to say that every game is like this, but I think it's safe to say that most are. An example of a modern game that contradicts this is Skyrim. It has good graphics and plenty of options for game play. In might have too many options. Another way to think about is that gameplay is becoming equivalent to watching a long movie. In this way no thinking is involved. I suppose this is the way it's always been though. One just need but look at how entertainment has changed through the years to see this. I'm no hypocrite though, my attention span is not what I would like it to be.

You can also see this trend in movies. For that just look at movies like Transformers, Marvel movies, or any old title that they take and just upgrade the graphics for. Ok, I'll stop with the rant=D.

I think that FF XII is the last game of the series that balanced graphics and gameplay well. I didn't play the sequels for FF XIII. My favorite of the series is FF IX which is not the same for most people. I'm also fond of FF VI,VII,X, and Tactics.

Final Fantasy XIII is one of the best games i've played. In my opinion, the best RPG game. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a very good game as well.
