It actually covers a lot of blank spaces of the original manga. Some of the best episodes didn't happen in the manga IMO.

definitely been led to believe by nb and tumblr that filler should be trashed instantly, I did question it for a while

Filler gave many of the females great feats and for that I'm forever grate-full for them even if I don't like some of them like those for Sakura. Though that said I do think they could of done better with some of them. Like after Peins fight with Naruto some of those flashback filler episodes afterwords could of been used on things focusing on the older generation than just retreding ground on that happened in part 1.

What does that tell you ?
It means he acknowledged him after the fact.
Was not cannon until kishi made him so.


He is the author,people can have suggestions and coach him but it is his decision and his alone to add or subtract.
