Background Info.
History:

gaara is the youngest of the fourth kazekages three childern and before he was born he had the bijuu implanted in him he was trained by to be the villages secrete weapon however he was seen as a failure and the fourth decide to have him killed though there was countless attempts on his life none where able to lay a scratch on him growing up in such a cruel way turned gaara into a murderous monster who only cared about himself and saw killing others as a way to "proof of his existence" gaara was first introduced during the chuunin exam arc gaara participated in the exam along with his two older sibling temari and kankuro they were able to easily get past the first two parts during his fight with lee gaara recieved the first physical injury in his life (a small scratch on his cheek which was very minor due to his sand armor) during the finals of the exam he went up against sasuke and was dealt major damage from a chidori which pierced him on the left side of his chest after operation "destroy konoha" began gaara faced naruto and for the first time in his life lost a match but more importantly he saw found someone who went through the same pain as him and was able to find strength from naruto and began searching for a new path gaara reappears during the sasuke retrieval arc and helps lee fight kimmimaru though he shows a vast amount of new techs and abilities he was still on the verge of lossing the match and his life had kimmimaru not have finally succum to his illness

during the two years between naruto and shippuden gaara becomes the kazekage and is now quite respected by the youth of the village however the elders still see him as nothing more then a monster and claim to have only given him the title as a way to control him gaara is first shown in shippuden when the akatsuki attack sunagakure in a attempt to capture him gaara is captured by deidara due to some well placed bombs and the fact that gaara expends the remander of his chakra to save the village from a massive attack after being capture the bijuu is removed from gaara killing him however thanks to granny chiyos kinjutsu he is revived at the cost of her life gaara is next seen during the kage summit and convinces the tsuchikage to cooperate with the rest of the group by asking him what made him so synicle when sasuke attacked during the summit arc gaara was able to block his ameratsu by using his sand to shield when the kages agreed to join together and make a joint shinobi alliance gaara was made the commander of the alliances
