This may be a bit late but I want to add something to the Germany vs. Portugal discussion.
I really really don't understand why people are complaining about that red card and the 1st penalty.
Sure every referee might handle this differently but according to the rulebook both of these decisions were correct. Especially regarding the red card there's not even room for a discussion. No matter how hard or soft that headbutt was, it was an unneccesarry act of violence. (Pardon the wording, I know he didn't really hurt Muller, just trying to get a point across)
No one asked Pepe to do this so it was his own damn stupidity. About the penalty: I didn't saw all the camera angles, but from what I saw Götze was being held for quite a while and not just for a few seconds (remember the Penalty for Brazil? The player there only got hold on for a mere 1 or 2 seconds and it resulted in a penalty)
Now the penalty for Portugal is something I agree on but would it have changed anything at that point? Not really.
I think one of the main reasons why teams like Portugal loose these days is that they focus and concentrate most of their Game on one person, in this case Ronaldo. Once you remove him from the game with a solid defence it's pretty much over.
Same happened with Argentina and Messi in 2010. No team should just build their whole game around 1 player. It's dumb and to me it's an insult to the other players of said team.
Also despite being from Germany I can only say this: Don't think Germany is the strongest team now just cause they beat Portugal 4:0.
Portugal was mediocre at best yesterday and we still need to see what Germany can do against a strong team. It was a nice victory but that's all.
Agreed. We always play really well at the beginning of the world cup but lose in the semi or final. I wouldnt put us as favourites until we beat a top team.
