Not really sure why so many people are going on about that Greece deserved a goal as in my opinion they did not. Of course that's a subjective notion as I never liked the playing style of the Greek, seriously if you get 25 points out of 10 matches, but only scored 12 goals, you already know what kind of team this is: boring. They had an early goal, which is a signal you need to press forward, but not the Greeks, they just kept on going with their usual, boring routine. If I see how the Australians fought yesterday against Chile, the Greek were meek. Seriously I find it hart to sympathize with a team that spent the last half hour trying to get penalties for the smallest physical contact instead of trying to play real football. They had bad luck with the header on the crossbar and Samaras' kick just past the post, however those are the only worthwhile things they did during the course of the entire match. They deserved this 3 - 0.

I didn't see any any attacking football nor an attempt to try it, only against the end sporadically something came out. I only saw the Greek passing the ball around at a not particularly fast rate trying to get penalties when they approached the opponent's goal. If this was Greece out of their comfort zone, their comfort zone was even more boring and dull than I recall.

TRUE, very TRUE but their regular style is even more defensive, also they looked lackluster due to lack of a strong striker.

OT- Nightmare for Uruguay loosing to an inspired Costa rica, they are hammering uruguayan net.

COSTA RICA won 3-1, one of the biggest upset of this tournament, 2010 semi-finaliats humbled by a sublime performance by an inspired costa roxanne team.
Costa rica will now be really fancying their chances in this group of death, if anything at all the group just completely blew open, Costa rica won't be the walk in the park.

Uruguay lost their concentration, their body language spoke volumes of their disdain and despair, the south african champions never looked in control in second half, they just accepted defeat after second goal, I doubt if even suarez would have made a difference.

As for costa rica even though campbell and navas played brilliantly, it was a complete team effort, they looked truly intimidating in attack and were a wall in defense, that save by navas at the end of 1st half was the turning point.

Yes Costa Rica winning with 1-3 was definitely unexpected, but I already said somewhere at the beginning that I don't get why some people are placing so many expectations on Uruguay. Yes they have some very good players, but their qualification for the world cup already showed that it didn't work as a team. Uruguay barely was able to qualify.

Costa Rica deserved it. Not the most technical team, but they fought for their well-earned victory and extremely deadly on static situations.

To me this isn't the Group of Death, that's definitely group B.

Group of Death remain a toss between Group B, D and G.

Spain's heavy defeat and now this unexpected defeat of Uruguay certainly makes a complex web though.

Costa Rica victory was fully deserved; yet this Uruguay side had a great WC 2010 and still lacks Suarez. They can very well, still beat England and Italy to me. This group is very tricky. A team with heavy pedigree like England or Italy can play with their experience though. 2 draws and 1 victory can very well scrap a place in this tight group.

The surprise is due to the fact we have certain sure expectations, which stem from certain empirical facts, costa rica never ever posed a threat to uruguay, they have played earlier on eight occasions, never won with 6 looses and 2 draws.

Moreover the surprise was greater because of the way they dominated the 'south american champions'.
Did Costa rica deserved to win? SURELY, but was the match surprising?, YES due to their level of domination.


Also group B only became group of death (I doubt it), because of spain's weakness which is due to over dependence on their golden generation while discounting their age and form, and not introducing new life into the system soon.
