[Tier] Feats vs Portrayals vs Hype

Which is most important and when do circumstances does one shifts to another. Such as Databook hype conflict with feats, feats conflict with portrayal (like hebi sauce v Orochi) and portrayals conflict with hype (itachi/kisame v Jiraiya)

Tl:dr

Logically i would rank as feats>portrayal>databook>hype. However i seem to notice it's never like that. Especially in pt1 which versus members seem to rely more on portrayal> databook>feats. Or hyuuga fanboys ( or anything taijutsu related tbh) is usually databook>portrayal>Feats

Portrayal will always be number 1 because that is how the author wants the character to be seen. Feats are second, hype is next, databook's position depends on what you are looking at the DB for. In some cases it could be above hype, the same as hype or below hype.

Portrayal is why people knew Hashirama>Gokage even though Hashirama had no feats. Portrayal is why people knew Hashirama>BM Naruto back when Hashirama had limited feats. Portrayal is why people (sensible people) know that Naruto can't defeat a full power Madara on his own despite full power Madara having limited feats.

No common sense comes into play at times. It's clear that Kishi retcon'd Hiruzen from being the strongest of all the Hokage so I wouldn't say that. What I mean is cases where Kishi obviously implies something such as Part one Kabuto being equal to part one Kakashi and cases like that where people might say "feats" suggest Kakashi is better but portrayal is clearly saying they are equal

So in a debate you're saying if someone argues that Kishi Portrayed Jiraiya > Kisame but I gave feats that have Jiraiya losing and in a situation where he can't counter....I lose?

No, because that's just a debate. But if Kishimoto really did portray Jiraiya as superior then when ranking people he'd be superior. Part 1 hype and portrayal has largely been contradicted by what has occurred in Part 2. Though people have made arguments for Jiraiya being able to beat him in the past regardless.

Gai and Kakashi always seemed to be portrayed as equals but we all know 7th gate Gai shits on any version of Kakashi except DMS. Same goes for teen RSM Naruto and teen RG Sasuke.

Funny question... Just recently I had a guy do this exact thing:

it can be Feats > Portrayals / Hype

it can be portrayal > feats/hype

Next Hype > Portrayal/feats

Nothing wrong with this as it can be circumstantial but it really depends on the person trying to get their one sided opinion across

Naruto and Sasuke have rarely ever been equal. The only times they've been equal are post Manga and at VoTe 1.
