[FEAR] Has the New surpassed the Old? (What do you think)

This is going to be a change of pace from my usual theory threads, I just wanted to get the opinion of whoever is interested. Do you think the Current/New Generation has Surpassed the Old?

The idea has been possed throughout the series, the New generation are said to surpass the Old. But is this actually the case? If we look at it purely from a stand point of Madara and Hashirama then it is ofcourse going to be skewed as they are the strongest members of the strongest Clans to have ever existed, but do you think Kakashi would stand a chance against one of their lower members? Perhaps a Jounin during their time.

Also let think of Sasuke and Naruto, they are suppose to represent the Madara and Hashirama of this Generation, so in a sense if they have surpassed Madara and Hashirama then the new has in fact surpassed the Old. Does the new generation need more time? It seems that Hashirama and Madara werent as strong as Sasuke and Naruto when they were their age, but I could be wrong.

So what do you guys think? Have the new Generation already surpassed the old? Or Did the old generation leave shoes far too big to be filled?

The old generation are all in their 30's or better give the teenagers time to grow.

I feel like Hashirama and Madara are going to be HARD to overcome, but given time Naruto and Sasuke can do it... Maybe. I think they have already passed the generation before them though (Minato and Itachi).

Average New Gen Shinobi vs Average Old Gen Shinobi = Yes

Best New Shinobi vs Best Old Shinobi = No, they are still too young and need to hit their prime before a comparison is made.

Yea over time naruto and sasuke will surpass hashi&madara but the only nin to surpass the old generation are sakura and naruto and sasuke that's about it and maybe garaa

Depends on which generation. The "last generation" included people like Gai, Kakashi, Asuma etc. I think it's safe to assume Naruto/Sasuke/Shika have surpassed them whether it be in power, intellect or experience. The generation before, the Sannin, have also been surpassed. But from the old generation; Hashirama, Tobirama, and Madara, only Minato surpassed Tobi. Hashirama and Madara are still more powerful than Naruto and Sasuke, but that will change.

Great Replies so far, it seems the consensus so far is that with time the New Gen will surpass the Old, but to me it still seems like Madara and Hashirama have set the bar a little high. Can you even imagine Sasuke making a Susan'o as big as Madara's?

This philosophy that the New generation will surpass the Old generation is quite odd... Did Hiruzen's generation surpass Hashirama? Hiruzen was claimed to be the greatest Hokage by many however unfortunately we did not get to see his prime nor did we witness his so called Mastering of all the Jutsu in the village. Just by witnessing Hashirama and Madara's strength and powers I highly doubt that Hiruzen surpassed them. Considering Hashirama is widely named the God of Shinobi etc...

The current generation cannot be compared yet as they are still young ... As mentioned by several people so I guess we have to wait for inevitable Plot No Jutsu... Naruto and Sasuke will surely get another humongous power up boost i'm 99.9% sure of this... =D​

Naruto and Sasuke are close to Hashirama and Madara of old....Edo Madara and Edo Hashi? Nah Further more they have to surpass the elder and younger son....So I donno lol. I would bet on not quite being there yet.

Sorry, but I highly doubt Naruto and Sasuke are 'CLOSE' to Hashirama and Madara prior to being revived y Edo tensei and in their prime etc....

The potential to match these capabilities is there, as I said they arnt at that level yet, but they will reach it within the foreseeable future. Sasuke will attain Perfect Sasunoo. Naruto however will likely attain a Biju sage mode. These are both likely going to happen soon. So yeah they are "close" to that level, Kishi isn't going to timeskip 5 years till they have trained enough to match them (which would be realistic). Nah Kishi will ass pull their abilities within 10 to 15 chapters to match juubito probably even sooner.

Actually Hiruzen was called the God of Shinobi as well, but I do see your point.

Some will need some more time, but eventually it will happen.

Obivously some random new generation shinobi, wont necessarily surpass every single shinobi from the old generation.
Random fodder from new generation, wont surpass Hashirama for example from the old generation.

However in general, the statement, new surpasses old, is happening and has happened partly already.

Its like the question you raised. Kakashi might not surpass Madara or Hashirama, but can he surpass a jounin from the old generation? I believe so yes. He can surpass the jounin, who was the Kakashi from the old generation so to speak.

So yes, I believe the new generation will surpass the old one.
Being able to see this, depends on how you look at it.
Those who take it literally wont see it at least and those who try to look at it relatively have a chance to see it.
That is what I believe.

Just some examples.

Kankuro surpassed the previous puppetmasters like Chiyo and Sasori.
Naruto is busy surpassing people like Minato and Hashirama (will happen, mark my words xd).
Sasuke will surpass the previous Uchiha.
Gaara surpassed his father.
Onoki surpassed Muu. Maybe not in all his jutsu, but in his way of looking at life, combined with his jutsu.

One can make a big list like this, and I will just stop here, because the point is clear I think.

When I hear "new gen surpassing the old" I think the Sannin. I feel, through the perfect Sage Mode and Kyuubi, Naruto has surpassed Jiraya but Sasuke is not near Orchimaru but Sakura is a lot closer to Tsunade now w/her new strengths.
