Crocus was pretty awesome when he was introduced. But they eventually stopped that gag they had
I'd say the members of Usopp's pirate group were pretty awesome too .

whhops, my bad.. I thought it was open to all anime. If that's the case then it's probably Ussop early in the series. (I never watched/read to far into the anime/manga so I don't know if he changes later on.)

For canon side character (means a character that shows a little significant in the arc), my most favourite is Madam Shirley/Shyarly. I really like her design, maybe because i prefer gothic looking. Also, she can predict the future, it's a gifted yet scary ability.
