Well when I said gossip. It was a kind of shortened version. Gossip usually has an entire school or company whispering it which gives it more power. "Repeat something often enough abd people start to believe it" and all that.

He shouldn't have been able to corrupt Indra. Madara was slightly different. It's easier to take advantage of the Uchiha when they are emotional messes and something goes horribly wrong. Madara manipulated Obito and he Nagato etc. So I think you give him a bit more credit than he deserves. Sure he motivated and influenced some key figures which had a domino affect on everyone under them.
