Watch it. It's different and better than the older one (so I've been told, haven't seen the older one myself). What I can say though is that it's amazing. Season 1 just finished with 12 episodes and season 2 will start in April 2015.

You shouldn't have watched the old one since it's an extremely bad anime adaption that ruins a couple of things from the original source. Also, don't watch the movie either.
