Just want it for the fights and animation? Fate/Zero anime > Fate/Stay Night UBW 2014/15 > Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel movies.

Zero anime is adapted well, but Stay Night's anime is a bad adaption regardless of which one you pick. Difference is that one has pretty animation while the other doesn't. UBW is also the 2nd route of F/SN so you won't be starting from the starting point of the series. If you wanna go anime only, you're pretty much forced to watch Zero first due to HF movies not being released and UBW still airing and Zero spoils you on a lot of plot twists in Fate/Stay Night since it's a prequel series that's meant to be seen/read after Stay Night.

He should watch Zero if he's anime only, yes. Even then I don't recommend it, but I doubt he's willing to wait for a long time for Heaven's Feel movies to be released. All he has to be aware of though is that it'll spoil a lot of twists in HF.

Correct. Fate/Stay Night was released first and is the main story. Zero is supposed to be viewed after Fate/Stay Night because it is a prequel that shows you how it all lead up to the start of Fate/Stay Night and watching it first would spoil you on quite a lot of plot twists in Fate/Stay Night.

Simply put, have you ever seen a detective movie about a murder? You know how the whole movie is the detective finding clues, proof, etc. and then at the end of the movie, he takes out his notes and goes ''Okay, this is how it all went down...'' -> *flashback of murder*.

That is exactly how Fate works. Stay Night is the main story and Zero is the ''flashback'' that shows you how it all led up to the events of Stay Night.

I watched in that order and i was seriously confused with the story to be honest. had i re watch everything.

If I view the Star Wars movies I also view them in the order of timeline not when they were released
