Ok, genjutsu is the illusionary arts in the narutoverse. The way a genjutsu is performed is by forcing ones own chakra into another persons brain or chakra system in order to control their senses from that point. Once you've got chakra into your opponents brain you could make an unlimited variety of things seem to happen in the illusion. You could effect their sight by making them see the terrain differently or think that you are attacking from a false location. You could also effect the other senses such as smell, touch, sound etc.
The next part is "noticing" you're in a genjutsu. There are several ways to notice you've been trapped in an illusion, the easiest is a way I will hopefully be able to use soon, and that's having a doujutsu. Having a doujutsu grants people the ability too see that their chakra flow isn't correct thus coming to the conclusion that someone has disturbed it with genjutsu. Another way is spotting small detail flaws in the illusion, for example someone could have you in an illusion that makes you "see" a fireball coming towards you, but if you don't feel the heat from it nor smell it burning you could jump to the conclusion that you're in an illusion.
Now to where ppl "break" genjutsu. I myself don't know a lot if ways but I'll list what I do know.
After noticing you've been trapped in a genjutsu you have several choices to pick that can get you loose. The simplest way is kai. Another way is by inflcting a certain amount of pain upon ones self, like stabbing your leg or burning your arm thus snapping you back into reality.
Then if neither if the two above is an option then you'd have to depend on a partner or comrade to disrupt the genjutsu by forcing their chakra into your body to get your normal chakra flow back.
Oh yeah and we could use a jutsu that burst chakra through my body such as chidori current or something like that. But for that way to work the jutsu you use has to be a rank above the genjutsu that's casted on you. This means a B-rank full body type technique could release me from a C-rank illusion.

Good. Since you've already mentioned a little about recognition, we'll move ahead.

Genjutsu are the illusion arts of the narutoverse and in our RP. If Ninjutsu is produced through the harmonization of Yin and Yang chakras, Genjutsu is primarily the Yin portion as it focuses on the aspects of creation and the imagination as opposed to reality. Genjutsu is the process of manipulating the basic five senses and, overall, affecting the mental state of one all together to produce illusions and mentally attacking entities. Unlike nin and taijutsu, the effects of genjutsu are not real bar few exceptions. The basic mechanics of genjutsu are; the disruption of one's opponent's chakra system through syncing and infusing their own chakra through to their brain and controlling the cerebral nervous system. The result from the chakra disruption causes an irregular flow of chakra that will result in the brain to process and project the contents of the illusion of the user. This is how most conventional genjutsu techniques work and force one to experiences an illusion. The entities of an illusion are presented as real to the senses which result in mental damage while the physical body is completely safe in most occasions. There are various types of genjutsu and various methods of genjutsu users who emphasize different types of illusions. Genjutsu, as a spiritual entity is often times over looked and/or underrated by many as it typically cannot get the job done to completely incapacitate or kill your opponent which is the desired. Genjutsu is typically used as a distraction tool or a tool of hindrance to set up for a more advantageous ninjutsu. In the series it is typically stated that only smart/intelligent shinobi are even capable of using genjutsu because of how advanced and difficult it is. Though in the case of the RP any and everybody can use genjutsu but typically only those who have a real knack for the style and skill for it are capable of using it well. However there is always a huge issue with metagame and inadequate use with genjutsu most times. For that reason, and the reason of a more thorough explanation of genjutsu and its rules, there are pre-methods included.

Pre-Methods

Recognition & Breaking Genjutsu
Casting Genjutsu
Layering Genjutsu

Recognition and Breaking deal with how to realize one is within a genjutsu and then how one can get themselves free from genjutsu. This method deals with combating against genjutsu (that's already been cast or preventing/anticipation). In order to fight a genjutsu one must typically first understand they are in a genjutsu and after which take the appropriate results to release themselves from the illusion, altering the balance of spiritual and physical energies, and return to reality.

Recognition: In essence there are two ways to detect genjutsu: either figure out its an illusion or notice the fluctuation on your chakra flow. To figure out its an illusion, the target needs to analyze the information he is receiving from the illusion and detect what is wrong with it or performing an educated guess. While the most used method, its also the most flawed and, regardless of any fact, is nothing more than a gamble as ones reasoning can always be wrong. Its also sometimes slow, as some illusions are very detailed and perfected to the point that noticing its an illusion may be virtually impossible. Detecting the fluctuation in your chakra flow depends on the situation but mainly depends on your abilities as only Doujutsu or Sensory Ninjas can have ways to detect fluctuations in ones chakra flow. Doujutsu users have, however, a limitation that hinders them to a bigger degree: if the illusion is high ranked (A-Rank for Byakugan and Rinnegan, while on the Sharingan, dependent on its stage) and takes complete control over their eyesight, they can't see their own chakra flow as what they will see is what is the illusion. Chakra sensors on the other hand need to figure out its a genjutsu or that something is wrong to then will themselves to focus on their chakra flow and notice its fluctuation unless they have the Chakra Sensing technique already active. Basically, if they don't figure out nothing is wrong, they won't sense themselves. This means that Chakra Sensoring ninjas work on a hybrid basis. In one hand they need to figure out some minor sign that its an illusion but on the other hand once its found they can use their sensing abilities to confirm it without a doubt.

One misconception generally associated with Genjutsu is that ones chakra travells to ones target. This is false or, if true, was never proven or showed in the manga/anime. If this was the case, we would never see Doujutsu or Chakra Sensory users getting caught in Genjutsu as they "would see it coming".

Another point that leads to many discussions is the fact that Clones may or may not be affected by Illusions. The truth is that they are in fact affected by illusions but since they don't have an organic, real body, they don't suffer pain or reflexive actions based on that illusion. They will experience it and see it and be affected by it in terms of their senses, but they don't take mental or otherwise physical damage nor do they experience suffering or torture, faint or otherwise fall asleep or become paralyzed as a result of the Illusion.
Breaking: Now, this can be done in 3 basic ways:

1- Altering the balance between physical and spiritual energies in your chakra by disturbing your physical energy. This is done by producing pain. Pain comes from the body and thus it makes your physical energy fluctuate by "shocking" your body. Because of this fluctuation, your chakra flow experiences a spike. This spike is a disturbance that will dispel other disturbances present in your chakra by unbalacing its flow and reseting it to its normal flow. The higher the pain, the bigger the spike. The more resistant or accostumed to pain your bio is, the less effect this has. Kaguya bios for example have a very high tolerance to pain, making them unsuited for this release method. While genjutsu can mimic pain or any other sensation, it will always pale against real sensations. While Pain is subjective, certain guidelines can be followed.
D Rank Genjutsu: Chipping a Finger (like one does as he bites to draw blood for a Summoning Jutsu)
C Rank Genjutsu: Low level Physical Attacks, Bitting a chunk of your Cheek
B Rank Genjutsu: Low ranked Taijutsu/Freestyle
A Rank Genjutsu: High ranked Taijutsu, Stabbing Yourself in minor muscle, Cutting yourself, Breaking Smaller bones, Low level Burning/Voltage, Painful Cold
S Rank Genjutsu: EIG/Sage level Taijutsu, Breaking Bones, Deep Stabs or cuts, Medium Voltage/Burning, Extreme Painful Cold, Bitting your tongue off
2- Altering the balance between physical and spiritual energies in your chakra by disturbing your spiritual energy. This is done by your sheer will power. Its done by forcefully creating a surge of chakra in your body by spiking your spiritual energy through will power alone, forcing yourself to mold and channel your chakra in a way that will either halt the chakra flow or disturb it. It can be done in 2 ways: through the cannon release technique known as Kai or through techniques that produce a high surge of chakra on your chakra flow.

-In the case of Kai, it breaks genjutsu in a direct proportion to the chakra spent to perform it. This means one needs to spend the same amount of chakra spent to produce the illusion. It counts as a jutsu from the jutsu count, requires 1 handseal and can only be used once per turn. The disruption does not break inheritly passive techniques, namely Walking on Water or Tree Climbing. Some self induced illusions can act as Kai or be designed to act as Kai.

-When we consider high chakra surges as a form of release, you need to have a technique that is at least 1 rank higher than the genjutsu set upon you for the case of elemental or specialized techinques (like Gentle Fist), or 2 ranks for the case of raw chakra techniques. An example of this is Raiton: Chidori Nagashi, an A-Rank full body technique that requires no hand seal and can dispel up to B-Rank Genjutsu set upon you. The principle is that as these techniques, since they require you to release a large amount of chakra from all or most of your tenketsu at once in a less focused manner, will, when one uses enough chakra, overcome the fluctuation set on the chakra flow, reseting it to its normal flow. Because this method needs one to overpower the fluctuation set on the chakra flow, you need to spend more chakra than what was used to induce the illusion. However, not all chakra burst-type techniques fall under this rule because of their own specific characteristics. An example is the opening of one of the Eight Inner Gates. Upon opening, the sudden release of chakra disturbs any genjutsu affecting you.

3- Altering your chakra flow through the introduction of foreign chakra or energies. This can be done by an ally who is capable of using the chakra transfer technique or by entering, for example, sage mode or being a jinchuriki in control of your bijuu or releasing a Curse Mark. The reasoning is that as foreign chakra enters your system or another energy (natural energy), your chakra flow becomes altered and unbalanced and thus releases the genjutsu. This enables the release of any Genjutsu except Mangekyo Sharingan grade Genjutsu.

All of these methods produce a reset-like effect on your chakra flow, making it return to normal and dispelling the Genjutsu. However, one most not forget that for a release to be valid, it ALWAYS needs to be partnered with a logical and reasonable explanation of how, from your bio's RP perspective, you figured out it was a Genjutsu/Illusion and thus felt the need to release from it. Releasing from it by "luck" or "because i know its a genjutsu" without stating the why isn't valid.

Restriction and Paralyzing Genjutsu pertains to the types of Genjutsu that do exactly that. The affects of the illusions paralyze the body to prevent movements all together, or can be more specific by stopping certain body parts from functioning or making certain movements. These are the most useful, or most used types of Genjutsu from what I've seen. It can truly leave an opening and if the opposition doesn't break the illusion they could potentially end up dead from what comes after.

Pretty sure you know all you needed to from Deadpool's small post. So let's begin with the techniques:

Before learning any genjutsu, you'll first learn to release them however. Why, well no real answer. I simply believe that you master something you first need to know how to counter it.

( Genjutsu: Kai ) - Illusion Technique: Release
Rank: C-S
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15-40
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user does one hand seal to focus and then proceeds to disturb his chakra flow by forcefully stopping it momentarily and then "spiking" his spiritual energy, unbalancing his chakra. This dispels any genjutsu set upon the user except MS Eye Techniques, Paralysis-like Genjutsu and Demonic Illusion: Toad Confrontation Chant. The effectiveness of this technique is dependent upon the skill of the user. A Jounin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to C-rank. An S-class ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to B-rank. A Sannin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to A-rank. A Sage rank user can dispel Genjutsu up to S-Rank. The user may use this technique through physical contact on others to dispel them from Genjutsu. The technique can only be used once per turn and the user still needs to fully follow the logic as to why he figured out it was an illusion.

You must know how this works, given the other Sensei posted the breaking system. So i'll place the following genjutsu on you.

( Konoha-Ryū: Yanagi ) - Leaf Ninja Art: Willow
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: 35
Description: The user waves their sword back and forth, which when seen by the target locks them in a genjutsu which causes them to hallucinate multiple waving arms. The movement resembles that of a willow tree blowing in the wind. With the enemy off guard, the user is free to cut them down.

You've been placed under this illusion by my bio. Your task is to describe how you become aware of you being in a genjutsu, why it's a genjutsu and not a real technique, and how you go about breaking it. If you don't want to use Kai it's fine, but i'd rather you use it, over the pain based method. That way I make sure you know how Kai works.

You must do so before my bio gets to close range and stabs his sword onto your left shoulder.

Seeing her sensei run at her, Koto braces herself for a direct attack made against her. She watches closely as he draws a sword and waves it to the sides while approaching, though something odd happens in that moment. She'd begin seeing multiples of his arm begin waving around, very closely resembling a willow tree flowing within a cool breeze. Maybe he was simply so quick that he was causing haze-like after images of his limbs, or he actually grew more limbs to attack with, or it could even be an illusion. Preparing herself for each of the circumstances, Koto builds up a bit of chakra within herself while readying her body to move at a fast paste. It was likely this was an illusion due to the unrealistic affects of having multiple limbs appear, but who knows what kind of techniques were out there? In case it was an illusion, she'd bring her hands together to form a single seal that would cause an influx within her chakra network, bringing back to normal any changes that were made. Simultaneously, in case it wasn't an illusion, she side stepped to the left, in an arc-like manner to evade the incoming attack. "KAI!!". To her surprise, she found that the extra arms had dissipated upon her performing the kai, showing that it was indeed an illusion.

Job well done, it seems you know enough of Genjutsu to atleast go through training properly, so we should begin:

Analyze the techniques below for me. How do they work? What are their effects? And how would you counter them/know they are an illusion? As well as any pros and cons.

( Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu ) - Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10 (+5 if you use it double)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion over an area that allows him to manipulate the way an area looks to fool an opponent. He can only change the way the terrain looks, and not any other feature.

( Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou ) - Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes five handseals, appearing to dissolve into a shower of cherry blossom petals. These petals surround the opponent, blocking his vision. This allows the user to mask his movement effectively.

Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu ) - Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique

This is a basic illusion technique that casts an illusion onto an area which changes the way it looks overal to fool an opponent. An example of this is making a rocky terrain look as if it had changed to sand or water to trick someone about the terrain. The way I'd counter it is the feel of the terrain. So in an illusion where they make it look like water, if i stomp the ground and don't hear a splash or feel wetness, i could tell it really isn't water. Q

( Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou ) - Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape

This is an illusion that makes it look like we disperse into a mass of flower petals which surround opponents like a tornado, obscuring their vision to mask our presence. To counter this if it was casted on me, I'd attempt some sort of wind technique that attacked while attempting to blow them away, which of course would lead to them not blowing away. I would then have reason to break free via a small amount of pain or something seeing as if they were real, the wind would have some sort of affect on them.

We will follow Loki's template for D-ranks. When we hit C-ranks, I will do it my way. U_U

( Genjutsu: Kasumi ) - Illusion Technique: Servant
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: The user does one handseal and throws a paper bomb at the enemy. The enemy, trapped in a genjutsu will see a clone of the user advancing upon him. As the paper bomb reaches the enemy, it explodes

( Kasumi Jūsha no Jutsu ) - Mist Servant Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: This illusion creates numerous illusionary clones of the user that appear to emerge from the ground, trees, rocks, etc. If these clones are attacked, they appear to multiply. The user can co-ordinate his attacks with the clones to make it appear as if they are real.

( Magen: Narakumi ) - Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user performs two handseals causing it to appear as if a swirl of leaves surrounds the opponent. The swirl eventually falls away, and after a few seconds, the opponent sees the image of whatever they fear the most, shocking them and potentially causing them to faint.

(Genjutsu: Kasumi ) - Illusion Technique: Servant

I quickly do the hand sign while letting my chakra seep out of me and directly into your brain. Then with my free hand I pull out a kunai but as I do that I mold the chakra in your brain to make you see a false illusion of my self. The illusion of me would dart at you at a high speed while in reality I'm throwing a kunai with an explosive tag on it. The moment the illusion of me (kunai) gets close to you I detonate the explosive tag thus making an explosion.

( Kasumi Jūsha no Jutsu ) - Mist Servant Technique

I throw several smoke bombs around the both of us, then as the smoke surrounds us I retreat into a nearby tree while letting my chakra seep out of me and into you. By the time the smoke clears I'm hidden in the tree and taking control of your sense of sight. The exact moment the smoke clears I begin making you see several clones of my self emerging from the surfaces of the entire terrain, they then all begin rushing you and converge upon you..

( Magen: Narakumi ) - Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing

As I receive my instructions I am already letting my chakra into your brains nervous system. The moment I've placed my chakra within your brain I forcefully disrupt your chakra thus messing with your senses and allowing me to manipulate what your mind believes its seeing. Leaves would then seem to rise from the ground and begin surrounding you in a vortex of ruffling leaves that block your sight of me. In the slight time gap that you can't see me I flee to behind a tree whilst manipulating your sights further. By the time the leaves quit flying around you I'm out of sight but in my previous position is now your best friend.(who ever that is >_>)
He is wrapped in flame embedded chains that are wrapped around his entire body including his eyes and face. As he burns and screams a false illusion of my self is next to him removing his spinal cord in a violent fashion. Blood poors out of his back as my illusion is removing the spine, the screams eventually get faint due to the chains gradually burning through his mouth and tongue. After a few seconds of watching the brutality your closest friend is receiving you should be so shocked and horrified you'd possibly lose consciousness.

(Genjutsu: Kawarimi ) Illusion Technique: Substitution
Type: Defensive
Rank: D-B Rank
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 10-20
Damage: N/A
Description:
A simple technique, this genjutsu works solely as a defensive measure. The user will produce an illusionary copy of himself while he escapes the path/area of the attack with a rapid movement, unnoticed and masked by the technique. The enemy will see and hear the user in the original place until the attack connects with the illusionary copy, at which point it will disperse, revealing the true location of the user. The technique can be controlled so as to have the illusionary copy interact and talk in specific ways with the enemy for other purposes, while the user remains hidden from the targets perception. The illusion is often personalized from user to user, namely in its dispersion, sometimes in relation to the users elemental affinity or summoning companions, following a theme unique to him. The limitation is that the user cannot escape large techniques with this ability nor incredibly fast ones, since the escape is his movement and, as such, is limited to small scaled attacks or normal paced ones. Only techniques which can be escaped by moving out of their way running or through movement can be defended from with this. The main limit however, is that, since its a sustainable illusion, triggering any offensive action towards the target will immediately release the illusion, be it a simple taijutsu move or a ninjutsu attack; any aggressive action the user wants to take will immediately break his focus and control over the technique, releasing the target from it. The stronger the user is with the usage of Genjutsu, the more effective and strong the illusion will be and more times can it be used.
Note: This version can only be used by ninjas without a Sharingan.
Note: Genjutsu users can use the technique thrice per match, D-Rank; Secondary Genjutsu Specialists can use the technique four times per match, C-Rank; Primary Genjutsu Specialists can use the technique five times per match; B-Rank.
Note: Movement speed is bound by the users rank.

Now this one is special indeed. Create a false clone of yourself that would take the brunt of this attack while you escape. However, if you try and attack me or perform any offensive action, your clone will disperse and reveal your true location. Your false copy can interact with people and talk as well. A lot of manipulation in this technique. Try it out on me, would ya?

*exhales a torrent of water towards you*

As the water comes at me, i cast an illusion that creates a false vision of myself. The false vision stays in the path of the water, acting as if it was attempting to evade to the left but being a bit too slow to do so. Simultaneously, I'd be quickly maneuvering to the right to completely evade the water while taking out a few kunai and throwing them overhead into the air to come down on you.

Tasuke was pretty sure his student would be here, he had to continue his Genjutsu a field that he didn't like too much but knew others would be interested in it. So he had to get over it. "Hello, Koto... Right? So you're here to continue Genjutsu? What've you learned so far?"

I've learned Kai release, and I've learned the techniques up to and including the Substitution illusion.... What do they call you?
"Ah, Good." Tasuke then smirked, "They call me Tasuke." Tasuke then punches his palm to get himself pumped, he didn't really like Genjutsu but students requested to learn it.

"Lets start with something simple?" Tasuke summons his Two Zombies which appear to appear off his back, one with Pink hair and one with green, the pink haired one named Toffee wore a gas mask and the green haired one looked similar to Tasuke but was called Ted. "Cast an illusion on my Green haired assistant here that tricks them into thinking they're still walking in a straight line but they begin to walk in circles."

Ted begins to walk forward.
