I disagree. Regardless of what fans or haters say, a character's quality will ultimately and always be what is portrayed in the manga. The fans can't determine the quality of a character, and if simple fanboyism affects your perception of a character's quality, then your perception is weak.
That's not entirely true either. You have a point, the way that char is portrayed in the manga si what defines his qualities.
But that's not what is changed. Your perception of the character is not necessarilly being changed. You'll still see the char as he is. But you'll link the character to all his wanking threads, this is an involuntary process. The more it happens, the bigger is the probability of that process happening too.
And even if you didn't want to dislike the char, you might start to do that, because once you hear the char's name, you'll already remember howa nnoying his fanboys are. It's not your perception being changed, you'll still see the char as he is, but always remembering how annoying his fanboys are can harm your taste towards the char.
