Family sues Forest Service for more than $1M after falling tree struck, injured son

So basically, this family is sueing the US Forest service, because a dead tree fell and hit their son(not dead), because they "didnt cut down a dead tree near the campsite". And this campsite isnt even an official campsite.

Whatever happened to common sense? If you want to be safe, look around and see if there is a threat to the campsite. Dont put up a tent near a dead tree. If i get struck by lightning while practicing my skills with a metal sword on the roof of the tallest building around in the middle of a summer thunderstorm, and get struck by lightning, do i blame the weather channel?

I hope people counter sue that greedy family.

Get a pair, and take responsibility. It is not the obligation of the government, to run around removeing all threats in your life.

This is what will happen: The forest service will offer to settle out of court for half the money so they can reduce their risk & avoid drawn out legal fees, & the family's attorney will jump on it & tell them to accept just so the attorney can collect their legal fees quickly. The family will walk away with about $400k for camping next to a dead tree, & the US tax payers are ultimately the ones paying for this. Welcome to America.
