I understand that going by analogy makes more sense to all of us, but sometimes, I prefer to think differently when addressing the lineage in Narutoverse. To fully classify the clan, we need to take into account all parameters.
Let take, for example Kaguya. She had Byakugan and a Sharingan. Some people call it Sharinnegan but I prefer the name that Hagoromo gave - that it is the Sharingan. Now, we hand up having one of son with a Rinnegan, and eye that is completely different from Kaguya's eyes. This raise some an issue.
See, not only Hagoromo had Rinnegan, but he also said that he was a priest. Furthermore, we know that before Kaguya arrived in the land, people were worshiping the god tree. This idea give again a priesthood in the land before Kaguya because I believe only the priest could know about the tree and the consequence of eating it. Basically these priest were guardian of the tree and maybe the peace as well.
Now, while everyone disregards the statement of some characters, and the fact that a child is born of a mother and father, I like to consider all possibilities. See, Hagoromo is a priest, and there was worship before Kaguya. So, I predict that there is more to the secret of Rinnegan. Hogoromo may not have Rinnegan because he was the child of Kaguya. Maybe, he got Rinnegan because he was a priest, or the son of some priest. I keep this as a choice because the six paths realms are actually a religious Buddhist concept. Thus, it is reasonable to think that Hagoromo unlocked Rinnegan by mastering some level of meditation - Sage mode - and obtaining enlightenment from it, which resulted in a special chakra.
Back to the clan discussion, it appears that the Uzumaki are actually kind of priest. Their techniques uses mask, altar, etc. Basically, they are naturally the people destined to confine the source of evil, which is the Juubi and all its parts. This makes me think the Uzumaki are actually connected to Senju via their connection to Hagoromo himself - that is their ancestor may have same father or related to hagoromo's father.
Guess what! The hero is of Uzumaki bloodline. He inherited the sage power and we saw him adopt some meditation state while other sages uses animal feat to absorb natural energy. From this, you can see why Kaguya wavered when she was identifying Sasuke and Naruto.
My opinion is that Uzumaki are neither Hagoromo's descendent nor Hamura's descendent. Rather, they are connected to these two via their father. Uzumaki are the priest of the narutoverse. Their power is the power of the god of Narutoverse. All the other clan with special power are connected to Kaguya, Hagoromo, and Hamura.
