This will be my last story for a while now. I hope I can write again soon.
Cancer.
Danzo rubbed his left hand over his face, accepting the diagnosis with little emotion. It was a bitter pill to swallow, sure, but he had always prayed to sacrifice himself for the village. Not die in some hospital somewhere, unable to protect the land he loved so much.
Tsunade looked at him, a strange sense of pity in her eyes. She hated the man sitting before her, but she knew of his loyalty to their village, and the idea of such Karmic Justice should have left her happy, but for as bad as the man was he still didn't deserve such a death.
When Danzo spoke, it was quiet, resigned to his fate. "How much longer do I have left?"
Tsunade sighed, closing the older mans records. "It's small, but there's no way I can reach it. I'd give you...a year. Maybe three, if you fought it with whatever you could."
Danzo's eye seemed to gain a new determination at this. He would fight this, with everything in his arsenal. He would not bow down to this, and let the village suffer. He stood, bowed deeply to the Godaime Hokage, and left.
Danzo lay on an operating table, his Root doctor injecting fluids into his right arm. He'd take on the cells of the Shodaime, if only to live just a bit longer...
Danzo sat groggily on his chair in Root headquarters, waiting for Pain to finish his attack. He wished he and Root could be up there, fighting, but his body was beginnin to fail him. And there was no way he would let himself die now...he still needed to complete his life's goal, to become Hokage...
Danzo fell to the ground, watching as Madara and Sasuke approached him. He smiled, happy that he would go down as a Ninja, not a patient. As a reward, he'd take them down too. "For the sake of Konoha...and for the sake of the ninja world...I can not let you two live!" He roared, as the consuming seal on his body activated. He fell back to the ground, disappointed as he saw his attack doing nothing to them, and Danzo grinned, ripping and crushing Shisui's eye, even as he felt his body finally give out on him.
He had gone down fighting...
