Falling Nights - Chapter 2: Promise Girls.
“Arigato?”
These where the words that came from the mouth Kosaki Onodera towards Ishuno but in his mind what was it for. The class was still slightly cheering on for the new comer but for Ishuno, who sat in silence didn’t know what to think or even say at this point. Kosaki simply averted her attention back to the class as Professor Nanaki cleared his throat in order to speak again.
“Ok settle down, act like the young adults you are. Now then shall we begin with roll call” he said as he got his register to begin. Ishuno who kept an eye on Kosaki as she sat a few seats away from him was astonished by the young lady. It was like he was dreaming. The girl who he had a small crush on was now in his class. It was only a brief moment until he felt a nudge in his stomach from Jacline who was trying to get his attention for the last three minutes.
“Helloo earth to Ishunodork! Professor N is about to call your name” she said slyly as she whispered to him. Ishuno now back to reality shock the feeling off and waited in silence for his name to be called. It was only several moments later when Professor Nanaki called his name.
“Present”, he said while raising his hand. Ishuno couldn’t help but look to his left towards the end of the row. Kosaki was silently reading a book in peace. Her cute innocent smile made Ishuno ‘s face red, quickly looking back to his desk. With a loud sigh he slumped down and hiding his face, Jacline caught wind of this but simply ignored her best friend’s normal behavior.
-Lunch Time-
It was 12:05 when the bell finally gave way to the start of lunch. Ishuno who had fallen asleep for a short while burst to life as it did. He quickly got up and ran out the door. Jacline was already ahead of him due to the two always racing to the lunch room to get first serving. It was too late as Jacline was already in line waiting on her food. Ishuno was seventh in line, but didn’t really mind. He simply hated losing to Jacline, who luckily found a table for them to eat. Briefly after getting settled in, Jacline questioned Ishuno as he was eating away at his catfish.
“So what do you think of the new girl” she said with a smile. Ishuno stopped suddenly and started to choke. The sudden question made him fluster slightly but simply stuck to his food before answering her. “She is cute…” he said thinking out loud but didn’t think about it too much. Jacline knew he was trying to avoid the conversation but she couldn’t help but pressure it more.
“So do you like her already? I heard a lot of guys are already asking her out” she said hoping to spark the conversation, but Ishuno knows Jacline’s mind games. He simply ignored her and kept to his food. Jacline got bored of him already, knowing her tricks won’t always work on Ishuno but it couldn’t hurt but to try anyway. Ishuno was ready to carry his lunch away but before he could, a young lady sat next to him. It was Kosaki! His heart started to race as she caught eye contact with him. She simply smiled and took the tray from Ishuno and carried it for him. The gesture was so sudden that a lot of the guys started to eye Ishuno out of pure jealousy.
Kosaki returned to the table where she started to speak to Ishuno. “I’m aware that you know who I am?” she said with a bright smile. Ishuno with a nervous smile simply looked away and nodded his head. Kosaki was now red herself and simply reached into her shirt for something but was interrupted by Ishuno speaking.
“Yeah, you’re that girl who was with that gang who got lost on the way to Fujitora Grand Museum. I’m surprised you came to school here.” Ishuno said with an honest smile. Jacline who was observing noticed this. It was the first time in such a while she seen him smile like that. It made her slightly jealous but it didn’t bother her too much. Kosaki who stopped and heard her statement, simply laughed and continued to reach for something. She took out a necklace, with a half heart pendant on it. She showed it to Ishuno who was lost in thought.
“No silly, you gave me this pendant ten years ago!” she said with assurance. Ishuno stopped and started at her but was lost. “I gave her that? Since when?!” he though in his mind. Ishuno simply shook the feeling away and replied to her/
“I’m sorry but I don’t recall…such an event happening”, he said scratching his head. Kosaki was confused but simply smiled. She then replied to him; “Hmm seems you have forgotten! Do you remember the Inosanna Apartments?” she said. Ishuno vaguely remembered the name, it being an old building on his street. It was taken down a few years back but yeah he did. “I do actually…” he said in a silent yet unsure voice.
“I use to live there; your mom was great friends with mine. We use to play together, but when I had to move away, you gave me this half pendant and told me that if we ever meet again…we will be together…” she said in a more saddened tone. Ishuno was vaguely remembering but the truth is, he doesn’t remember such an event. He simply brushed it off and but then realized the “we will be together” part in her speech.
“I ah aha…need to go” Ishuno said before heading out the door. Kosaki was alright with it, though she left the table to go to the rest room. Jacline who was sitting there was in her own world after she heard the small story. A half heart pendant…she though as she removed one of similar nature from her neck. She also had such a similar experience with a boy in her past but she doesn’t recall who the boy was or what he looked like but she does however know he was in the school.
“Could Ishuno be…” she thought to herself but simply brushed it off with a smile, Ishuno liked her but wasn’t in love with her…or at least she thought. She couldn’t help but wonder if this new girl really is his promise girl but she must know if she is potentially one as well.
-Back yard of the school-
Ishuno who was under a tree, simply thinking of what the girl said. He removed a similar pendant necklace and as he held it, his heart raced. He did remember, but he doesn’t remember the girls face, name or even where she lived. All he had was this pendant and the vague memories of his past. He knew of Jacline’s own but he was assured it wasn’t her and didn’t question it. Now that word is out, who is the true promise girl? He decided to remain low key about it till he was assuring of who the girl really is.
