Fairy Tail or One Piece??

Short version: if you want to read a story with incredible depth, high amount of character development and a jack out of the box at every corner, read One Piece. If you want to simply set your brain to zero and be highly entertained, read FT.
He wasn't comparing, he was asking which he should start first, not which series is supposed to be the best. IMO any serious manga reader should have in the least read OP and tried reading FT.

They're both amazing. Do you mind telling us what you look for in a series? FT has a better anime than One Piece's anime. Personally, I recommend FT first since it's faster to get caught up to. One Piece is the better series though.
This perfectly sums up One Piece.

One Piece in my opinion. It has TERRIBLE pace so keep that in mind and follow the anti-fillers guide and you'll be okey.

Fairy tail= Nothing but a fun, easy going story with no complex themes or plot. If you like to have many characters in the show with cool development and usual shonen jump main character that is all about "My fiends give me all the power I need" then go ahead and watch it. Deaths/emotional moments are rare in FT, or at least in my opinion there weren't many.
One piece= Emotional story with insane development for the main character and the strawhats aka his crewmates, adventure is mostly everything here, so expect as much weird shit as you can XD. Anyway main character is trying to be a legend on the sea and as the story goes on,he picks up people from different islands to join his crew. This is definitely recommended, though the pacing may be one of the worst, however events that happens in each arc makes it worth it so don't give up.
Bleach is better than both imo.

Don't know about Fairy Tail but One Piece is great. You can start any of them first, it doesn't matter. But I'll recommend One Piece, it's extremely expansive and interesting.

FT=a group of fighters who have lots of fun and never gets beaten no matter how strong their opponents are.the freindship power is strong in this one.has a good plot many good charactres but very less character development but good pacing.
one piece:group of pirates who all has their respectives role in a crew travel togather from island to island facing new enemies and making new allies.they win some times they loose and runs sometimes.insanely great plot,very good character development and unlimited possibilities.
personally i would reccomend both.but i i have to pick 1 it would be 1 piece.

One Piece is a thousand times better, but the pacing can get boring at times. It has good characters, some of the most amazing arcs, great character and story development. The plot is absolutely fantastic.
FT is............sorta good. The beginning is decent, but the main characters never lose, which gets repetitive. The fights in Fairy Tail can be very predictable and ridiculous. There's barely little to no development. Every arc is the same: Powerful villain hurts FT and Natsu and the others automatically win with friendship and feelings. Plus, the fanservice is horrendous. It's borderline Hentai.
