- Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin and Black Butler are a just few of the anime that have made the jump to musical or comical live-theater versions. And soon Japan’s off, off, off-Broadway stages will be able to add another name to that growing list as Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail heads to Ikebukuro’s Sunshine Theatre in spring 2016!
It is officially confirmed today that a stage play adaptation of Hiro Mashima's action fantasy manga Fairy Tail is in the works. 25-year-old Shuto Miyazaki, a member of Watanabe Entertainment's actor group D-BOYS, is cast as the protagonist Natsu Dragneel. He previously played Shinpachi Nagakura in the Hakuouki musical (2012-2015) and Hayato Shinkai in the Yowamushi Pedal stage play (2013-2015).
Akiko Kodama, who made her stage directorial debut for the Takarazuka Revue in 1997, writes and directs the adaptation. Among manga fans, she is well known as the writer/director for this year's "Live Spectacle Naruto," a stage play adaptation of Masashi Kishimoto's ninja action manga series.
The Fairy Tail stage play is scheduled to perform at Sunshine Theater in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from April 30 to May 9, 2016.
