Ok no offence to anyone who tried to come up with a logical answer an failed, but this is the true facts.

Ok lets begin......sasuke has sharingan, hinata has byakugan so the eyes their child would have, will not be sharingan or byakugan.......the child's eyes would be the (older son's eyes)..
Because it was said uchihas an huygas come from the same house, an are reletives.....so if the so6p first son aka the older son.......had two childern of his own which gained half of his powers each thus creating the first sharingan an byakugan users....
so that being said by an uchaha an hyuga having a child would create someone to posesses the older son eyes.

I think the sage had the byakugan, and when he became the juubi's host, the juubi's sharingan transformed the byakugan into the rennigan, so it was basically byakugan + sharingan = rennigan

the elder son only inherited the eyes and yin chakra maybe when his blood was thinning the eyes got more yang chakra and mutated into the byakugan-white eye
