Ok before I start, I would like to state I am in no away trying to justify everything that happened in Chapter 688. I’m still upset about O-Casper moment in this chapter. What I would like share are my conclusions about the Uchiha’s Kekkei Genkai (UKG) Sharingan and how Kakashi achieved Mangekyō Sharingan (MS) through his non-Uchiha eyes. My first in-depth theory.

First, how the Sharingan is developed: In a moment of clarity I realized that the Uchiha’s Kekkei Genkai (KG) ability is not the Sharingan. The Sharingan is one of the many results of the clan’s KG. The Uchiha’s KG is actually the ability to mutate the biological make-up of the eye. Using unique neuron-signals initially triggered by mental trauma. Like a ware-wolf changing ability or Bruce banner turning into the Hulk.

For example, remove the eyes of an Uchiha child that has not yet developed the Sharingan into an individual that that does not possess the Kekkei Genkai. The user’s (non-Uchiha) eyes will never develop the Sharingan during the indivuals life spawn even though the eyes originally belonged to an Uchiha. The mutation can only be performed by an individual that possess the Uchiha Kekkei Genkai (UKG). This mutation also includes changing the eye back to its original biological make-up. This is why Kakashi and Danzo (non-UKG) could never turn the Sharingan off. The eyes were stuck in the form the non-UKG user received them.

“So if that’s true, how does Kakashi have the ability to mutate his eye from Sharingan to Mangekyō Sharingan (MS)?” The answer is his own unique ability to recreate what he sees, feels, or experience. I imagine that Kakashi was able to copy two UKG neuron-signals when Rin died. This is possible because Obito and Kakashi were mentally connected at the time, as clearly shown that Obtio was receiving visual signals from his disembodied eye. Kakashi’s brain, although unconscious, was able to mimic the experience of the UKG neuron-signals used to mutate a Sharingan to Mangekyō Sharingan and back once Obito calmed himself.

With all that said. I hypothesize that a highly skilled UKG user could mutate a set of eyes remotely (meaning the eyes are not implanted in the user). This has been implied twice at Rin’s death and the Death of Itachi. Itachi was able to store the UKG neuron-signal to trigger when seeing Obito’s face (Dude was ahead of his time).

Now let’s take the next step, if the UKG is the ability to re-map the eye’s biological tissue through neuron-signals this would conclude that a UKG user could achieve the Sharingan through non-Uchiha’s eyes.

“Why didn’t Kakashi mutate a new Sharingan on his own or mutate both eyes long ago?” Remember he never had the opportunity copy UGK neuron-signals for normal eye to Sharingan and vise-versa. So basically Obito’s Ghost (it makes me sick to say that) re-linked to Kakashi and showed him the incomplete UGK neuron-signals; normal eye to Sharingan.

NOTE: Side note although I’m not ready to explain it fully. Technically since its Obito’s UKG neurons mutating Kakashi’s eyes would make Kakashi’s current MS, Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Which would explain his ability to use Perfect Susanoo. Thanks for reading.

I would have included reference scans but the chapters I mention are pretty well known. So didn't think it was needed.

There's about a dozen theories running around on this and... this is my least favorite.

I think there is only one reason why kakashi has the sharingan again and that is to make it possible for the team to go back to their dimension after the fight.

Last chapter I was thinking, "with obito dead, how will everyone get back to the real world?" Kishi just answered that by giving kakashi kamui again.

I know, i just wanted to give a logical reason why it could happen.
