If you already think, you know how Kakashis kamui works, this thread should not change much on that definition, however, since you are here, you might wanna read it anyway xd
Mainly I'm doing this thread so I can use it as evidence in vs threads, but also to be corrected if it happens that I am wrong regarding Kakashis kamui.
To start we here have the explanation for kamui from the 3rd Databook:
It is pretty obvious from this definition how kamui works. However, what the databook says nothing about, is the speed of the jutsu. It is pretty obvious that it takes a while before the jutsu becomes active around a certain point. This goes for any barrier.
So from this it would be fair to say that the larger the object that Kakashi wants to absorb, the more time it takes. This is the most important definition for the jutsu, because this actually means, Kakashi can't directly absorb objects that are moving very fast.
So my definition will be this:
Kamui must be made in a position where the target will eventually appear. Say it takes 0.5 seconds for Kakashi to open a portal of a given size, he must start making opening this "portal" in a place, where this object, will be in within at least 0.5 seconds.
This definition makes this jutsu even more complex, and a lot harder to use, but Kakashi is a genius. U_U I will now explain several occasions, where Kakashi used Kamui. Against Deidara, against Sasuke and when he sent Naruto clone to smash Obitos mask.
Deidara
Sasukes arrow
Naruto clone
I am actually done now, but one last comment:
Now the databook also says there is no defense against kamui, but this is the 3rd databook, and this should simply be understood in the matter that there is no jutsu from the manga that has been proven to be able defend against it, at the time the databook was made. So it would be safe to say that it is still valid, because when Obito defended the gedo mazo against it, it was the first time such a jutsu was seen.

To start we here have the explanation for kamui from the 3rd Databook:
Kamui
Hatake Kakashi
Ninjutsu
N/A
An original jutsu by Kakashi. Through the use of "Mangekyou Sharingan" Kakashi can send anything through a space portal. Released through extreme concentration and specially trained chakra, Kakashi directs his intention at the point he's looking at causing the person to be caught inside a space barrier. While the target will struggle there is no defense against this jutsu, all they can do is proceed to get engulfed in the space distortion.

Deidara
Now actually this is probably the hardest one to explain, but take a look at the first:
Here we clearly see that Kamui isn't an instant. Kakashi starts the jutsu, before it starts affecting Deidara. The moment Deidara is caught inside it, he cannot escape it. This comes from the Databook. We also clearly see that Naruto is pretty far from Deidara at this moment.
Here we clearly see that once Deidara is caught in it, Kakashi is trying to enlarge the barrier of absorption, so that he can take him out in this instance. However, apparently he realizes that this isn't possible, and he fails, or you may say he just ripped his arm off, because he couldn't absorb something much larger than his barrier allows. This proves that Kakashi hasn't fully developed the jutsu yet. However, one important thing is that by doing this Kakashi was able to actually stop Deidara from moving. This is proven by the fact that Naruto made it to him with his rasengan. Since Deidara still couldn't escape the barrier - hence the Databook definition again.

Sasukes arrow
So here we see Sasuke sending out his arrow, which is too fast for Kakashi to dodge. So it's pretty fast alright:
However, the arrow is long, but very thin. So Kakashi actually just have to make his kamui as a circle with the same radius as the arrow, and put it in a vertical position somewhere in front of the arrow.
And as we see, the arrow was pretty damn close to him, when he absorbed it, so I believe he made the kamui right in front of the location, where the arrow would hit him, since that would be the safest way for him.
This same explanation works for when God realm sent a seam towards him, and this is even smaller, so it would be even faster/easier for Kakashi to do it.

Naruto clone
Now this one is very tricky, because kishi didn't show us exactly how Naruto was absorbed, but this was mainly in order to "surprise" us, though I didn't really get surprised xd
Anway lets have it. Here we see Naruto jumping towards Obito with a rasengan, and obito pulls out some sort of weapon from his dimension. So this makes it very tricky.
So Kakashi must have put the barrier in front of Obito in a way so it absorbed Naruto in the very instant. But then why didn't Obitos weapon get absorbed as well? Cause that would have blown Kakashis plan. Well it may just be that he was extremely fast at closing the barrier, but there may be another answer. Kamui can only be entered from one side. However, I myself doubt this, due to a lot of reasons, but also unless someone can find more proof of this, I will simply go with Kakashi being able to close it the moment after Naruto was absorbed.
Another thing is that when you absorb something big that are airborn (like Naruto was) it would make it easier, or so I believe. Firstly there would be no natural forces to oppose the absorbing force, and secondly Narutos clone would know what was going on, so it wouldn't oppose it anyway.
