The Yata no Yagami has become rather legendary on internet forums. It is believed to literally be impervious to the any attack, like the moon.
However, I was wondering if this was a misconception. Effectively, a person would be saying the mirror withstands attacks by simply being powerful.
However, the description of the mirror has stated:
Zetsu states that the mirror repels or deflects jutsu. He never actually states that it blocks jutsu, in the same way a regular shield would. This is a very important distinction.
The first time we see the shield in action, we are given some hint of this:
As you can see, the shield doesn't really block the snakes. It's more like it caused the snakes to be redirected; it basically dispelled the force and in doing so, caused the attack to be non-existant. The snake on the ground shows you an example of where the force of the attack is: all over the place. So the snakes aren't really hitting the shield with the force of their intended attack. They're just brushing against it.
This mechanic also suggests that Sasuke's Susanoo is in possession of the Yata no Kagami. Pay attention to the pillar where Sasuke is standing, and the ground.
Notice what happened moments later:
So, what happened? Just like what happened with the snakes:
Danzo's attack touched the mirror, and the mirror dispersed his attacks. This is shown by the damaged ground and pillar.
If the mirror simply blocked the snakes, we would have seen something more like:
The databook even stated:
The true power of the shield does not lie in blocking. It lies in repelling or deflecting.
To some, this was hyperbole, but there's inerrant truth to this depending on how you look at it. If you choose to think this means the mirror is withstanding attacks, you'll always think it's impossible for it to withstand a Bijudama. If you choose to think the mirror is actually interfering with attacks through some other means, then you'll understand why people think Itachi can survive a bijudama.
That aside, the idea that the Susanoo is identical among users was confirmed by Kishimoto back in 2013. What differs between them seems to be nothing more than preference. For example, Itachi and Madara are both users of the Yasaka Beads. They have used the beads where they are a linked necklace:
Or a dispersed attack where the beads are no longer a necklace:

あのスサノオとか言う術…
あの盾で全ての攻撃をはじき返してる…!
Zetsu1: That Susanoo jutsu
is using a shield to fight off his attacks...!
間違イナイ… アレモ霊器ノ一ツ
全テヲハネ返ス八咫鏡ト呼バレルモノダ… ソレニ攻撃ニハアノ十拳剣ガアル
Zetsu2: That's definitely... one of the "incorporeal tools". (note: or "spiritual tools", as you prefer; ndt)
It's called Mirror of Yata, it can repel anything. Besides, he uses the Sword of Totsuka to attack.
