Hiruzen is still alive I'm sure of it. tobirama was cut in half by the sage and he managed to regenerate. Then Hiruzen's head was blown off yes. But it was after Obito gained control of the juubi where he managed to cut Minato's arm off and nullified edo tensei. If he could nullify edo tensei all along. Tobirama wouldn't be still alive.

Let's simply look at this from the writer's POV. Ok I'm going to bring back the hokages. I'm going to hype their return and show off what they can do in the process. I'm going to have Hiruzen die getting attacked once...... Simply put no.

Otherwise this was the biggest troll a writer could put on a character

Hiruzen body, even with edo tensei, is still severely crippled compared to his prime. All he is really left with is his knowledge and analytical skills, which he displayed against obito. He's served his purpose.
