Good thread. They probably move at mach 1 or 2.

Er... Do you actually think that this technique moves at the speed of sound? I'm leaning more towards hyperbole, like Sasuke being as fast as a 'God', and Temari who 'blows away the universe' -- Rather than the technique itself moving 768 mph.

Why can't it? Sasuke dodged C2 shockwaves and they are way above the speed of sound. That is hyperbole, this one isn't as it's offering a kind of scientific evidence.

Databook even states this is an assassination-based attack. Assassins strike fast, and fatal; this attack does that very exact thing. No hyperbole what so ever, especially when the manga has blatantly portrayed Iron Sand, an early Pt.2 technique to break the sound barrier, while in late Pt.2 all technique were extremely overpowered.

Was this stated in the Data-Book as well? lmfao

He's talking about the Temari hyperbole. Madara's Perfect Susano'o shock waves easily traveled beyond sound though.

Does it have to be? What you called hyperbole isn't how hyperbole is used.
Depends on how the speed was calculated, and yes, I would definitely call a technique that moves at the speed of light, a hyperbole.

Especially given how that technique was dodged. Or anything I said really. Most of them are known exaggerated claims.

Eh, he's talking about speed of sound, not light.

I sort of agree with the both of you on that part. I thought we were talking about the examples I brought in when trying to make sense of the DB's sound argument.

I personally find it hard to believe /most of them/, but in this instance, yeah.

Here's how I see it:

If we've never seen it in the manga (techniques breaking the sound barrier - traveling faster than light etc.), but the Databook explicitly states such, then it's a hyperbole (majority of the time). But if we've seen anything in the manga to support such statements than it's believable.

Since we've seen breaking of the sound barrier in early Pt.2, Mizudeppō no Jutsu is blatantly true. But in regards to traveling faster than light, I'm unsure if we're talking about a jutsu. Because we've seen shinobi travel faster than light (e.g. Minato, Tobirama) through instantaneous jutsu.
