If Kurenai made Jonin in part 1 than at this point every single character in the series should be a Jonin. Not to bash on Kurenai but we've seen chuunins' in the first exam with better combat skills than her.
Try to name 1 human character that appeared outside a flashback in the last 300 chapters that part 1 Kurenai could beat.

Kurenai literally got one fight and was against a genjutsu master.

You can't say Kurenai is a bad ninja when she does not have any feats. We know she is capable of using high enough level of genjutsu for Itachi to praise her skills. I'm pretty sure she could be several non uchiha shinobi with her genjutsu.

Who knows what else she has in her arsenal? The fact she made jounin in the same generation with kakashi when things were tougher she is clearly good.
