Imagine during the current circumstance, with Madara being bored out of his mind after absorbing the Juubi and waiting for Naruto and Sakura to finish from their dream-like slumber of "remembering the Second Chunin Exam".

Meanwhile Kakashi must be off somewhere reading Icha Itcha, while Sasuke is going "Not this shit again, are they daydreaming about one of their imaginary adventures that didn't actually happen?".

I am imagining a scenario like this happening with the characters, while the others are too preoccupied with their flashbacks.

No, Unlike Boruto the movie, Kishi isn't the script writer in Last Movie, Toneri is nothing more but a filler filler, it doesn't matter whether Kishi classified as "canon" because if that's the case then all these fillers we've had up till now will be canon.
