Probably one of the most common myths in Narutobase is that Itachi could have defeated MS Obito back in Akatsuki.
So, once and for all, let's settle it down: that's simply false.

That makes no sense.
Think about it for a moment. What did Itachi do right before his death to Sasuke?

The answer is: he implanted an Amaterasu trap hoping to stop Tobi from getting close to and influencing Sasuke.
What follows is an obvious conclusion that Itachi DIDN'T WANT Obito to get close to Sasuke.
There is absolutely zero reason for Itachi NOT to kill a villain he knows is a villain if he can do it. Tobi meant trouble for Itachi in every sense of this word: he was a danger to his beloved village, he was a danger to his beloved brother, he was a danger to his plan about keeping the truth in secret.

What about Obito's statement that he would have died if not for his secret?
The key word here is if.
If Obito didn't have Izanagi he would have died against Konan. The problem is, Obito did have what he had, so it doesn't help Itachi's argument a bit. Obito himself stated that Itachi's plan was a failure at best, he wasn't phased by it.

But then why didn't Obito kill Itachi? Obviously it must be because he was not strong enough!
That's nonsense. As opposed to Itachi, who had no reasons to keep Obito alive (see point 1), it's a different story when we look at it the other way around.
Itachi was a Leaf's spy, but he was nevertheless a useful asset to Akatsuki. Just to name in-panel examples:
-He helped Kisame infiltrate Konoha
-He helped with Bijuu extraction from jinchuurikis
-He stalled Gaara's rescue team
Add to this the fact that Itachi never had the chance to share any intel he gathered with Konoha, nor did he manage to interfere in Akatsuki's plans at any point and you get an ALMOST full picture.
The last reason Obito kept Itachi alive was because of Sasuke. As we know, Itachi wasn't willing to cooperate with Obito really. But, thanks to Itachi's death by the hands of Sasuke, Obito was able to persuade Sasuke into joining him. That's how he gained a powerful tool (because an ally is a wrong word here), especially after Sasuke got EMS.

In other words, killing Itachi would be a complete waste.

That doesn't convince me, Obito would have killed Itachi if he could have anyway!!
Well, if that doesn't convince you, then let me tell you that even if Itachi was stronger than Obito, Obito could have get ridden of him at any point he wanted. He was pulling the strings behind the whole organization, ordering even Nagato around. If he wanted to, he could have simply ordered Nagato to do the job. As you can see, no matter the individual strength of Obito, he could have got ridden of Itachi anytime he wished. He didn't - not because he was too weak, but for the reasons stated a point above.

But yet obito never tried nagato but the other members

Nagato> Obito any day!
I never said Obito was stronger than Nagato. But it doesn't change the fact that Obito was ordering him around.

because he wanted to be killed by sasuke, itachi didn't want to be killed by tobi (who he believed was madara) so he didn't risk it because of there being too many unknown factors, whereas tobi knew everything about the both of them and concluded that itachi would of killed him. simple.

Read the last point.
Unless you want to argue that Itachi could possibly take on both Pain and Obito, then the last part of your post is an unfounded assumption.

so are you telling me a man who has evaded the 5 nations, can't evade pain? and what do you mean an assumption?? tobi knew everything about itachi. also the pain vs itachi scenario only occurs when obito is killed by itachi, therefore the thread finishes then.

Saying Itachi wanted to preserve MS to fight Saduke is nonsense, since he somehow wasnt bothered when he engaged in pointless battles he used MS in (Kakashi) and used it to torture a 12-year old (Sasuke).

Also, obito being easily defeated is irrelevant as the one who defeated him had a counter. Itachi doesn't.

Tobi all day, Dude had actual knowledge on Itachi and counters to practically all his shit and like you said killing him would be a waste.

the whole "Id be dead right now" statement doesn't hold much weight either, shit implies he was referring to Itachi's Amaterasu trap not a straight up fight.
