He is a tall man with shoulder-length black hair, with some hanging down in front of his face, a half-shaven beard, and a small mustache. He is most commonly seen in a matching black outfit, consisting of a dark, long-sleeved shirt and black pants. Alongside them, he wears a scarf made up of dozens of loose bands around his neck at all times. He always tends to have a tired appearance. When his sharingan is activated, his eyes emit a crimson hue.

He is a harsh man of high expectations, as he is known to expel students who he felt were not suited for the shinobi academy. He was never afraid of putting his students through rigorous and sometimes even harmful exercises, expecting them to pull through. He did not try to shield his students from the particularly unpleasant parts of being a shinobi, and pushed them to overcome their limits.
He is a person moved primarily by logic, which over time lead him to rebel from the outdated system being used to run the world. He tends to be blunt and rather flatlined when it comes to his ideals and explanations about things. When he has a belief, he will state it without holding anything back, such as when he flatly stated he did not believe that one of his students would survive the chunin exams. As he predicted, that student was heartlessly murdered during the forest of death phase. He often comes off as cold and apathetic, showing very little energy and sometimes letting his students resolve certain issues by themselves.
Failing to let go of his apathetic traits, Shota eventually ends up quitting his job as an instructor in order to invest more time into himself.

Shota Aizawa has always been noted as a capable shinobi despite being known as careless. Since his early days, his teachers and peers noticed that he was blessed with the traits of becoming a very powerful leader. He was raised by the streets of the Hidden Mist, where growing up was more so a struggle to survive, especially without parents. The family he once knew, consisting of his father of Uchiha decent and a mother of Yuki decent, was slaughtered during a covert anbu mission, for the Hidden Mist and Leaf villages. He was merely a toddler when it all happened so the memories of his parents are feint. He was apart of an orphanage for about ten years where he started being rebellious, violent and running away until he was arrested by the authorities for one of his petty theft crimes. The police handed him over to their chief where he was pardoned on one condition, he had to enroll into the ninja academy of Kirigakure and become disciplined. He had friends as a young shinobi but they all died in one way or another. As he got older, he simply became colder and as his experience grew, his compassion diminished. The higher ups in the village decided that Shota would fit best as a hunter ninja for the time being.
During one of his classified missions, it was suggested by one of his squad members that Shota Aizawa should become a teacher due to his stern yet nonchalant undertone and his natural talent. Taking it as a joke, Shota dismissed the other hunter ninja’s suggestion. Upon returning to Kirigakure from his mission, Shota Aizawa was appointed as head instructor for the academy where he taught for three years before going rogue.
