Still he must have taken some dmg right?
Since Hyuuga attack the insides of the body and not the outsides.
You cant train the insides as Gai or Kakashi once said.

I havent made up my mind yet what I think of these two happenings.

The gentle fist style is basically palm thrusts combined with chakra shots that are aimed at the chakra nodes. Through his thick guards he was wearing and by his reflexes, he blocked the palm thrusts and the chakra shots from those thrusts did not hit any of the nodes. This is why he was unaffected.

As to being tricked by genjutsu, he had no reason to look out for it. The byakugan sees genjutsu being active by seeing the chakra network being warped in the victim. This does not mean he can not be put under genjutsu. He was spending all his energy searching for targets and as it was cast via scent with no one around, he had no reason to verify if they were affected or not as that would be a waste of chakra.
