You should have mentioned this fact in the first place.
When it comes to guitars it is more than important that, that person to play it because believe it or not the guitarist actualy makes a connection with the instrment. A "respective" guitar that could be reviewed as the best in the world could surprisingly be very weak or useless for your friend.
No one can help you with this question. If you really wanna make such a great gift. Take him to the store and make him play those or some of the instruments inside.
Why ? If you don't do this and buy the guitar based on nothing you have a 50% chance to get it wrong and if he will not like it. It will just sit there in a corner collecting dust.
A guitar is a great gift wether or not you tell him about it. But, picking a guitar is truly something of personal choice and no one can say which one is better for you.
Or just ask him which guitar he thinks is better(he will talk about his personal choice) because someone wants to start playing and ... he has no clue what to do..
