Nimmy and Panda hugged for a long while, conveying their sense of relief at seeing the other. Panda was happy to have her friend back, and seeing her made her feel a twinge of nostalgia. She couldn’t help but notice how different Nimmy looked without her normal uniform; she remembers seeing her with her hair tied in a tight bun, brown shapeless pants, and a khaki button-up shirt – none of which was exactly flattering. Now she stood here in a white spaghetti-strap sundress, letting her short blonde hair caress her shoulders, as though she were a new person. She looked stunning!
“What are you doing here?” Panda finally asked after the shock of her arrival.
“They found out about my help in your escape. Apparently one of the inmates ratted us out for some cigs a guard offered. It was Bones.” Nimmy replied with a hint of anger in her voice, crossing her arms.
“Dammit, I knew I couldn’t trust that piece of shit. I’m really sorry, Nimmy. So what now? You ran from the fuzz, or what?” Panda asked.
“Yeah, pretty much,” Nimmy paused, suppressing her annoyance at the memory. “It happened so quickly, too. I was out doing my daily rounds, guarding the outside post, and two cops grabbed me and dragged me to the supervisor’s office. They even brought out the handcuffs and everything. The supervisor wasn’t even there, so I guess they thought I was an idiot, since they didn’t strip me of my equipment; I still had my keys.” She let out a small chuckle on behalf of their ignorance. “I made a break for it as soon as they were gone. I remember you told me your stop was here, so I took the first bus to Canada,” she smiled. “Don’t worry about it, though. I got bored of that job anyway.”
Panda was about to speak when Excite intervened, stretching a hand to Nimmy. “Hey there, blondie. I’m Excite and I seem to have lost my phone. Can you give me yours?”
Nimmy stared in disbelief as if thinking to herself, “did he just ask that?!”
Panda laughed, “You’re not serious, right? Your pick-up lines still stink.” Excite glared at her.
“I uh… I don’t know what to say!” Nimmy finally spoke and shook his hand. “I’m Nimmy and no you may not have it.”
“Don’t be so polite Nimmy, he’s a creeper.” Panda muttered under her breath to Nimmy, “He’s the one that made me move to another state.”
“Oh wow, yeah I remember that.” Nimmy laughed.
“Shut your stank mouth, Panda.” Excite exclaimed, “I changed, you know. I’m a new man now, if you hadn’t noticed,” he said in a dignified tone, popping his collar and grinning.
Panda rolled her eyes and Killa, who was busy with paperwork, lifted his gaze from the cluttered mess on Excite’s desk and spoke, “Anyway, nice to have you here Nimmy. I’m expecting you’d like to work alongside Panda? You’re aware of what this business is, right?”
“Well from the suits, half-naked dancers and harlots, not to mention that this place is grand enough to be a hotel, I think I have a pretty good idea of what’s going on.” Nimmy smiled and then her emerald eyes became instantly cold. “I assume you do not expect me to be a harlot nor a dancer, because I do neither.”
“I had no such plan! I have the same idea for you and Panda. From what I gathered, you and Panda took self-defense, karate, and tae-kwon-do classes together, am I correct?”
Her eyes grew warmer, “Yes, that’s true.” She smiled as she approached Killa and sat in the chair adjacent from him. “I think I can defend myself well enough.”
“Nimmy don’t be modest, tell them about that time we got in a fight and you almost whopped my ass.” Panda cackled, “Man, that was hilarious. Nimmy can pack a punch! I may have bruised her a bit, but she fractured one of my ribs. We never fought after that.”
Nimmy joined in with her own laughter, “You were drunk that day, I’m sure if you were sober I’d be a goner, Panda. I’m no match for you! Not to mention you barfed and passed out on the floor right after! That was hilarious!”
“That next morning was rough!” The two girls were doubling over with laugher at the memory - even Killa and Excite joined in.
Killa finally cleared his throat, and fixed himself into a more proper state, “Anyway, y’all are already in the system. Breakfast is only at 8 AM so if you miss it then lunch is at 2 PM. The Break for everyone is at 6 PM. Dinner is at 10 PM. Both of you start tomorrow at 4 PM, and at 3AM it’s closing time. Did you catch all that?”
Panda and Nimmy recited the schedule back to Killa, stumbling in a few places. Killa laughed, “The schedule will come naturally with time, so don’t worry too much ‘bout it. So wel-“
“Wait, wait! Let me do it!” Excite interrupted excitedly. He straightened his back and took his time to clear his throat before booming, “Welcome to ‘Excite Me Palace’ ladies!”
