I wanted him to fail in bringing back Sasuke and sasuke to remain evil and be killed by naruto, something that hashimaru couldnt do to madara, or jiraiya/hiruzen and orochimaru. Does everyone have to have redemption? Even orochimaru now lives comfortably on the outside of the village. I think that ending would have been more of an impact if Naruto learnt that you cant force everyone to change.
