End City Chapter 1: Past Lives

~"I'm not afraid to admit that sometimes when I'm alone, I think of you."~

A young girl no older than 5 was listening to one of the president’s advisors tell his stories. It was her bed time and she always loved his stories while her dad was out. She had light blue hair and grey eyes that seemed to sparkle in the light. She was listening to the advisor who was very mature for his age; though you couldn’t tell by listening to him speak with the little girl who was never allowed to exit outside the vicinity of the president’s courtyard. Usually reserved for a 17 year old, he made it a point to over exaggerate and explain in detail the stories of the outside world.

“So was he really surrounded!?”

“Damn right he was surrounded! Bullets were being fired everywhere. Cars were blowing up and wrecking all over the place! Even worse he was running low on the ammo! Even one of those helicopters flew above the place with that bright light that blinds you!”

The young girl went under the covers and then peaked back outside of them just a little bit. “Not the helicopters! What did he do?”

“Well with only two bullets left he-“Before the young advisor could finish her dad opened the door having overheard the story. His breathing was heavy and in short intervals.

“Are you telling her those stories again? I say stop with that nonsense!”

“But dad he was just about to tell me how he escaped!”

“That’s the problem! Too many of those lowlifes are escaping the governments watch. Gangs are not to be glamorized no matter your purpose. They are lowlife criminals who were too lazy to earn a living the right way so they take the lives of others. If I could just tie them all up and-“

“Sir…may I remind you we are in the presence of a child.”

“Humph, I know very well how to act in front of my daughter unlike you. You are dismissed and you are not to tell her of these stories ever again. Also, Odeon, I need to speak with you about a matter of importance. We will have to leave tonight.”

“I understand sir, goodnight Mr. President, and goodnight Eliza. We will be back I promise, and I’ll tell you stories your dad likes. (pronounced E –Lies-a).”

It is now 2450 AD. With the economy and trade suffering greatly many problems began to arise such as climate change, wars, and gangs. The world leaders agreed to unify the nations into a single country to put an end to their problems; however, it would be referred to as a single city, End City which could only be described as a Gigalopolis. This plan, although protested at first, did have success. The former world leaders and countries were able to agree to a unified plan to fight the climate change, with a single currency it was easy to trade and create businesses without hassle or superpower bullying others. The people became confident in the market and business boomed. With a single unified earth wars became nonexistent in this environment; however, this unification had a reverse effect on gangs. The theory was that the powerful unified Terra Government could stomp out the gangs and assert a force like no other and this was true. Small street corner gangs and drug dealing was not as common as before, but the gangs became more dangerous. In a single government one rotten area could ruin the entire fruit and this was the case with the government. High profiled and powerful gangs easily manipulated the system and were able to rise to power more quickly. Many gang members pulled the strings behind the scenes and even ruled entire sectors of the city. Bribery and blackmail was common and after many years of letting the infection spread it was highly unlikely for anyone to get rid of them. If they tried they would be…dealt with.

“Good work Eliza on the recent crime bust. Your father would be very proud! What has it been 15 years already?”

In the East Sector-Radiant Highlands, A grown Eliza was taking off her police vest and badge after a police assignment. She had just taken down a major drug operation and captured about 20 high profiled criminals on her own before her team actually got there. Her hair was longer reaching to her back and she had developed into a beautiful talented young woman. Her silver eyes still sparkled with that innocent hope of a child.

“Thanks I’m just doing my job and finishing what he started. I owe a lot to Vice President Kuro for adopting me upon my father’s death. Despite his distaste for me in this line of work this is my way of giving back to the community.”

“That’s why I love you so much! You care about others and you look good doing it. How about we meet at that local restaurant down the street?”

Without a notice or hesitation Eliza placed the young nerdy individual in a chokehold that was not in any sense of the word playful. The poor man was turning blue.

“For the last time Andrew…No I do not consider burgers and a soda on the 99 cent menu a wine and dine, no I do not like long walks on the beach, no I don’t have a boyfriend you’re just that repelling, it’s called deodorant, and it’s not because of your glasses; in fact, keep them on. I'm leaving now, bye.” Eliza contrastingly walked out with a smile while Andrew was gathering his life and misplaced confidence all across the floor.

“She almost killed me that time, which means I’m making progress. I can tell *cough, cough* she totally digs me.”

As soon as Eliza entered her truck her smile faded away as she stared into space. Although she did not make a point to do this, it developed into a habit to go deep in thought when no one was around watching.

“I don’t know dad…what am I really doing? I take on the missions the tell me to take; I get rid of a few criminals making sure not to fly too close to the sun. Some of the worst criminals may be who I shake hands with on a daily basis.” She thought of Andrew and then shook her head rejecting the thought of him being the next criminal mastermind. “Dad you stood for something and never wavered until you passed away. So what I complete a drug bust when 50 more will take their place? Dad how were you able to handle this god forsaken city”

Eliza started the ignition and then drove off through the streets on her way to her home. On her way there a voice suddenly came through the intercom speaking in urgency.

“ELIZA ARE YOU THERE!”

“Yes I am Andrew can you just shut it-“

“I’M NOT ASKING YOU RIGHT NOW!...That comes later heheh…Oh yeah urgency. WE HAVE GOT A TIPOFF FROM AN ANONYMOUS SOURCE!”

“Oooookaaayyy? Can you stop screaming?”

“NO! IT’S THE TUXEDO DRAGONS! THEY’RE AT AN ABANDONED WAREHOUSE ON 44[SUP]th[/SUP] Street! THERE IS A TEAM CLOSING IN ON THEM ALREADY!”

“*Gasp* that’s the gang that….don’t worry Andrew I can get there first. Send in the back up team anyway we’re going to catch these bastards.”

“Ah, sexy as always…”

“Andrew what happened to urgency?”

“Oh yeah…SEXY AS ALWAYS!”

“Not that you idiot! The backup unit!”

“Ohhh…DEPLOY BACKUP UNIT 3!”

Abandoned Warehouse

The warehouse looked as if it hadn’t been renovated in years. Compared to all of the modern buildings and technology in the world today this building looked like a relic. There were about 7 people inside wearing tuxedos. The two people at the head of the operation were upstairs with another man who appeared to be in a bloodstained blue suit. He had blonde hair reaching his back and wore an eye patch over his left eye. He was chained to a chair with his hands chained behind his back. The two leaders of this operation were standing in front of him. The leader, Gorou Yamamato, was on the left having short red hair and had green eyes. The co leader was an inch taller than him and had short spikey black hair and green eyes. He had a long scar going across his left side of his face diagonally just hitting the corner of his eye. His name was Zeke (ZEEK) but most people just called him Z. He spoke first pointing a gun at the chained guest.

“Can I just do it now and get it over with? I’m getting tired of watching this guy being quiet?”

The chained man responded in jest, “Well one of us has to be.”

“See that’s what I’m talking about! I’ll kill him right here.”

Gorou then held Zeke back by simply giving a hand motion. “That’s why you get sent on all the murder missions and I get sent on things that require a little more mental capacity. Go down stairs and make sure the doors are secure.

“Yeah whatever.” Zeke placed his gun back into his jacket. Unlike everyone else he had his shirt untucked and jacket unbuttoned with a loose collar and no tie. He went downstairs only to see the guards fooling around betting on cheap snacks.

“Hey you ass-holes make sure that door is secure, and save some of those for me.”

“Y-yes sir.”

Back up stairs Gorou stared into the eyes of the helpless individual.

“So…are you going to sit there all day saying nothing?”

“Maybe…”

“Well we can’t have that. You interfered with the boss’ plans for too long. We lost an entire shipment of it thanks to you. Do you know the high demand we are dealing with here.”

“So just kill me already as punishment, or did you have something else in mind?”

“Something else in mind.” Gorou grabbed a knife and slowly stabbed through the mysterious man's shoulder twisting and turning the knife the whole way through. The chair and chains rattled as the man contained the screams that the body wished to expel, but his smirk remained. Showing through blood and sweat.

“So its torture then?”

“No, we need you to tell us where you hid it. We know it was not destroyed on such short notice.”

“Well you’ll have to wait until after they let you go.”

“What are you talking about?”

The bloodstained guest closed his eye and looked down and then in the blink of an eye fired a laser shooting through his eye patch revealing some kind of mechanical eye. The laser shot through the chains holding down his legs and went down to the first floor almost hitting Zeke.

He then kicked off of Gorou and crashed through a window breaking the chair in the process. Recovering from being knocked down Gorou peered outside the busted window but could not trace him at all.

“Damn, he escaped.”

As Zeke was about to head upstairs to see what happened gunshots begin to feel the warehouse, striking many of the guards by the door. He could also hear the sirens and knew something was definitely not right. Flipping over the stair well and drawing out his guns he shot the two intruding officers in the head killing them in one shot. Standing with his back to the wall he looked out the window and could see another truck coming and one empty police car already there with the sirens still going off. Closing one of his eyes to take a better aim Zeke shot at the police car which was soon followed by silence.

“Man that thing is annoying; anyway I need to figure out what kind of freak accident happened up there before this gets worse.”

Running to the top floor all he could see was shattered glass, blood, and a scorched hole in the floor. Gorou and the man they were questioning were both gone. Then the sounds of propellers could be heard on the roof. He wanted to reject his initial thought and became wide eyed and rushed to the roof only to find Gorou aboard a helicopter and in the midst of take off.

“The hell is this Gorou!?”
“Sorry, but we need someone to take the fall. You know how these things work in the food chain.”

“Food chain!? You-“ Meanwhile at the entrance Eliza examined the situation noticing the busted up police car and the foot of a dead officer outside the door.

“Dammit, they went before I got here. It seems rather quiet in there; I wonder if they left already.” She then grabbed then pressed a button on her built to communicate with the headquarters. “This is Chief officer Eliza. I am at the abandoned warehouse on 44[SUP]th[/SUP] street flying solo. Officers down and in need of assistance.”

“Copy that my love. Be careful.”

“Ugh Andrew…Well, I might as well go in. I don’t have my vest so I do need to be more cautious.”

She walked in slowly gun first. She was never nervous on an assignment before it was just that this time it was…them. It would finally be time to administer justice and she could finally feel like she lived up to her family name. It was at this time that a pissed off Zeke blindly ran down the stairs and locked eyes with the Chief he then gave a mischievous grin.

“Freeze!”

Running toward each other Eliza fired the rounds off first only for Zeke to duck to his lower right and then tackle Eliza to the ground. Using the momentum of the fall to her advantage she lifted her legs up sending Zeke over her, stealing his gun, and flying into a wall which he then kicked off of aiming his fist down at Eliza’s face putting a few cracks into the ground as she rolled away and swept her leg beneath Zeke’s feet. Off balanced he landed on his hands and then performed a back flip as Eliza continued to go on the offensive throwing a series of punches and kicks to no avail. Getting backed into a corner Zeke charged forward grabbing her arm.

“May I have my gun back?”

“Screw you!” She quickly reversed the situation and landed a kick into his chest which didn’t seem to affect him all that much. Trying to take advantage of his backwards momentum she lined up the gun for a shot only to have it knocked out of her hand by a swift kick followed by another strong punch that surely would have fractured her skull had she not ducked. Zeke side stepped a blow meant for his abdomen then grabbed Eliza by the throat and slammed her against the wall drawing out a knife from his sleeve just before he was about to deliver the final blow he looked into her eyes and stopped. The hostility in his face was replaced by a look of concern and confusion.

“Liz?”

Taking advantage of the situation she kneed him into the groin causing him to fall down in pain unable to defend himself as he let out multiple curses under his breath. Eliza was handcuffing him as the police arrived. Then seemed to space out again acting as if she had saw the living dead.
The first officer to approach her was the other high ranked officer in the district Cobalt.

“You managed to waltz in a warehouse filled with Tuxedo Dragons and even apprehend one of them? I must say I’m impressed.”

“H-huh? Oh that…many of them were dead before I got here. I just managed to catch that one.”

“It was a good job nonetheless. Pretty soon you will be leading your own police force. It reminds me of the time that I-“

As the arrogant, prestigious individual rambled on Eliza delved back into the realm of her mind. Something about this criminal was familiar. She repeated the image of his face over and over then remembered his final expression of what seemed to be an innocence.

“Zeke?! That can’t be right but that last look…it looked like him.”

Eliza remembered a young Zeke, an age older than her, who used to be a trouble maker. He was one of the butler’s children and used to play with Eliza all the time until his disappearance around the age of 11. He was always smiling, laughing no matter the circumstances, and was very caring, but today his eyes looked cold and filled with hate up until that final moment.

“How, what happened to him?”

“You say something Eliza?”

“Uh no, I said whatever happened to Jim.”

“Ah Jim, he was quite the character. Whenever I would sit down with him I would….”

Eliza didn’t have the stomach to listen to another one of his long drawn out stories. Cobalt really did think too high of himself, but what made it worse was he often did things to back up that attitude of his. Eliza walked over to the backup squad car which contained her childhood friend from 10 years ago. She just stared at him though he did not return the gaze choosing to look ahead instead. She then turned to the officer of the squad car. “Do you think he will talk?”

“Not sure he will. No Tuxedo has ever been brought to justice. They either don’t talk or are killed before they can; in fact, they rarely even get caught. I’m surprised at their sloppy execution today. It’s not like them.”

“Yeah that had me worried too…I need to speak with the commissioner before Zeke gets there it’s important. Do you know his whereabouts?”

“Well he is out right now. I’m sure he will be back early in the morning around 8:00. You should go get rest you’ve had an eventful day. I don’t know what we’d do without you.”

“Thanks, and I’ll do that.”

She parted ways with the officer and then looked back into the squad car. This time she met with his eyes as he looked at her through the corner of his eye without turning around. His cold gaze had returned. She walked to her truck hardly believing that was the playful kid ten years ago. She didn’t turn on the radio this time; instead, she just drove in silence thinking of Zeke, the Tuxedo’s, her dad. Walking through her door she sighed and then locked it behind her than collapsed on the couch. In a dark part of town a helicopter landed near the building followed by Gorou and two others exiting out of it. He looked confident and assured but the sweat dripping from his face said otherwise. Entering the door he was greeted by darkness save for the light on two people towering over him. One wore a mask, the kind you would see in drama plays. It had a happy face on one half, and on of anger on the opposite side. He wore a long black cloak covering his body. The second had a stern look and was physically built like a giant. His hair was long and black and he had numerous scars on his body as he had a two ton hammer strapped to his back. A voice could suddenly be heard in the midst of the building. It seemed to come from in between the two people standing just ahead, yet the person behind the voice could not be seen. It was a combination of elegance and demonic madness striking fear into the hearts of those around it. As he spoke the light suddenly appeared on Gorou and the two subordinates.

“Welcome my son would you like a drink? You are looking rather EMPTY TODAY!”

“Sir I…”

“SHUT IT YOU MAGGOT! You tried your best that’s all I can ask for. I’m just a little disappointed that you came back with NOTHING! No hostage, no shipment, and oh yeah where is Zeke. He always lightened this place up.”

“Well about Zeke he isn’t exactly dead…the police came and.”

“Ohhhh tragedy! Zeke met his end by that awful police force.”

“Well I don’t know what happened to him.”

“WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY? WHY ARE YOU SOME DAMN USELESS!”

“The guy we were interrogating somehow gave a tip to the police. I had to escape and let him be the fall guy. We’ve done this before; I don’t see what’s so-“

“YOU DON’T SEE ANYTHING! That plan works fine for my little puppets such as you. HAHAHAHAH; however, it has taken everything in my power to set that boy straight. He won’t lie down and die for us like you mindless drones, especially after being left behind. I can imagine all the information he is giving him.”

“I’m sorry fath-, boss.”

“NO YOU’RE NOT! YOU F*CKING LIKE SEEING ME LIKE THIS YOU DISGUSTING WORM! I’ll SHOW YO-, Sorry, I probably said some things that should not be said. I’ll take care of this mess you made. Still someone has to be punished for this or else it will happen again. Remember I do this because I care about you.”

Immediately after this statement the two subordinates begin coughing up blood while gasping for air. They weren’t able to stand very long before they begin convulsing on the floor besides Gorou. Gorou watched in horror not moving. The sweat dropped down his face and he finally closed his eyed.

“NOW GET THE HELL OUT OF MY OFFICE, and don’t be too hard on yourself we all make mistakes right, RIGHT!?”

“Y-yessir.”

Gorou walked out of the building as the lights went out. He didn’t dare look back; he only looked down as he walked to the helicopter, flying above the city with the boss’ voice still echoing in his head. He shuddered once and then disappeared into the night.
