Every character that has gained the power of EMS has always stolen their siblings MS to gain this power. But what if they had stolen lets say their fathers MS would they still gain the EMS?? I heard that it was only viable with siblings.

It was said it only works with siblings.Unless Kishi add something more to that I don't think anything else will work.

As far as I remember, Itachi mentioned to Sasuke before their fight that A MS User can awake EMS by taking the eyes of same blood relative (means from his/her own family) but sibling would be the best suitable or compatible person...

You can take from any uchiha, the closer the blood tie, the better chance of ems.. so a father would just about have as much chance as brother.. meaning , Itachi could have gotten ems if he wanted/tried. - Source - Databook

Doesn't matter as long as its a Mangekyou you'll get EMS, During the fight with Sasuke, Itachi stated the trade could be made between clansmen
