So no, the only person who was admitting any kind of inferiority to Jiraiya was Kisame, which is factual because Jiraiya does indeed > Kisame. Itachi claimed they were more along the lines of equals, if not slightly above Jiraiya. Which is also true.

And no, the paths don't beat Jiraiya handily, not at their location anyway. That restricts village busting ST and CT. All 6 paths overall do > Jiraiya, but it's not by much, and under the right circumstances, he can pull off the victory with Gama Rinsho. Nagato was right to be wary.

The 6 Paths of Pain are very strong, but when people wank them by trying to say one or two can beat some high tiered character, or something ridiculous like Madara or Hashirama, the wanking is going way too far.

I don't really feel like debating this fight because its uninteresting but bro.... you know damn well Itachi and Kisame were talking about Jiraiya, not Naruto or as you put it, the Kyubi Jinchuriki. You took that way out of context and the facts in the manga and what we know about the characters blows that argument away.

Please don't say they weren't aware of his abilities and only saw him as the "Kyubi Jinchuriki". They were aware enough to formulate a plan to corner him when he was alone so they knew without Jiraiya he didn't stand a chance.

Then they run. Kisame casually attempts to neg Naruto but runs away with Itachi when Jiraiya appears. The whole Itachi stalemating Jiraiya is backed up with them having the highest ability score of all others in the manga (Up to Itachis death) and their scores were tied so the DB was supporting that statement.

There is no way Itachis comments were about Naruto. Jiraiya is who we was referring to and its surprising that idea is still floating around when literally all the facts point to the opposite.

No, the wording clearly indicates they're talking about the kyuubi and then move on to talking about his babysitter, Jiraiya. Further proved by the point that Kisame quite literally states right after running in to Jiraiya that Itachi could have beaten him.

He has no idea what Naruto is capable of. Yagura was a perfect jin at Naruto's age. And if something went wrong and the kyuubi's seal broke, they'd have to fight the kyuubi.

They formulated the plan to keep him away from Jiraiya to make it an easier kidnapping. It's common sense. And again, if the seal breaks, and the kyuubi is released, they're ****ed. They have no information on the seal, they have no information on Naruto's abilities, they do have information that someone around the same age as Naruto had complete control over a tailed beast, so why wouldn't they go in to with caution?

Kisame was trying to kidnap Naruto. Not trying to, as Itachi clearly stated in their fight with the jounin, start a war. They also, I imagine, knew Gai was on their tails as well. Fighting Jiraiya, Gai, eventual backup and potentially the kyuubi breaking free?

Jiraiya also had the upperhand with the environment they were in. They were in a closed in space where he was able to execute Gamaguchi Shibari. There's nothing that Kisame could have done in that situation to survive and Itachi has means(susanoo, amaterasu), but he was already exhausted from fighting the jounin and having used tsukuyomi twice.

Databook scores mean nothing in terms of fights. It's just to show how generally skilled someone is in each area. Kishimoto even threw out the idea of using them in his 4th databook.

They clearly segway? Noted by what, exactly? Kisame already says that Itachi doesn't need to run from Jiraiya, so that already completely eliminates the statement if you wrongly believe it's actually referring to Jiraiya in the first place.

Him = Naruto. Kyuubi is inside him. They would have to engage him in combat to fight the kyuubi.
