They're pretty much even...

During the fight Hashirama took on Madara with the kyuubi, later on Hashirama gained the kyuubi and used it against him.

Off panel, Hashirama's tree world/buddah was down and so was Madara's perfect Susanoo.

They both were out of chakra and can only fight with their swords until Hashirama pulled the trickery Justu known as wood clone.

Madara claimed he saw it and rewrote history by inzanagi, took his cells to become even stronger.

Madara never used his full arsenal. Not once was he shown trying to use Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, or Izanagi on him.

It's kind of unfair how hashirama had to take on kyuubi and madara and still won even though I'm a a madara fan boy what hashirama did is pure skill no ninja other then current naruto sasuke or obito can take on ems madara plus kyuubi
