EMS in one eye?

but that would be pointless, or there would be record of that as a viable way to obtain EMS. Boil it down and its still obito's eye + obito's eye. If that were a legit possibility then sasuke could have just combined his and fought with one eye the entire series.
now that isn't necessarily true. The sharingan evolves based on the stress you feel during certain actions. If it evolved for kakashi before, he could in theory become so close to an uchiha that they feel like a brother to him, kill them and take the eye and it could be EMS. All this is extremely unlikely though

Too bad for Kakashi it is not possible for him in any circumstances to ever get EMS since he is not an Uchiha it is said that it can only be done between clan's men.
And now to all the "merging" theorists, where was it stated that the eyes were MERGED ? Sasuke was going blind so he took Itachi's eyes and gained EMS in the process. I don't recall anywhere in the manga saying they had to go through a ritual of any kind to merge the eyes ... just transplant these bad boys and there you go EMS !
And for those who will try to bring up the 4 socket on the statue thing, this is horse sh**, come one guys the four sockets are only a representation of the POWER of the 2 Uchiha merging into one. As long as the manga doesn't actually SAY it ( which is kind of too late) it's a simple organ transplant, nothing else.

I'm not too sure, but I think the merger theory came about as an attempt to explain why Madara and Izuna didn't just trade eyes, thus giving them both EMS. This was back when the story was that Madara was going blind and either took or was given his brother's eyes (i.e., before we learned that Izuna was already on his death bed due to battle wounds). Basically, until very recently, it didn't really make sense that Madara would take/accept his brother's eyes, then just throw his eyes away, when Madara's old used sh*tty eyes are better than Izuna's lack of eyes. Plus, we know that EMS apparently cures any preexisting blindness (or else Sasuke would be as blind as Itachi was near the end of his life). So, what happened to those old eyes? ...the merger theory was born, I think.

It doesn't work like this. Other sharingan should be compatible with the user (like sibling/relatives)
It should not be possible, from what Kishi have told us about EMS so far. You need the MS eyes of a close sibling. So your own wont do..
Of course, lately Kishi has been pulling rabbits out of his ass over and over, just to make events that are unpredictable, because they contradict, what he has said earlier. So it's not impossible, but it would be another sad ass pull from Kishi, and another drop in the manga rating by the readers. But w/e we are reaching the end at least...

He won't obtain the EMS. The two eyes are both Obito's. As someone already said, it is like to change the places of your right and left eye. I bet, if Kakashi kills Obito, that he'll take his Rinnegan and transplant it in the place of his MS.
Ok first we all know what a transplant is, BUT this is a manga and they do not follow the same rules. The eyes are not switched they do merge somehow, that's why the pattern changes, ant that's why the demon like figure has 4 eyes (the users original eyes and the other MS pair). Now don't imagine they just shove one pair on top of the other, but don't give it to much thought, just take it as it is.
And another thing, if they would just replace the eyes then both siblings could get EMS right? They would just trade eyes... But clearly this is not the case.
Now back on topic, this is a very tricky question, because we know that you need a sibling's eyes, because they share DNA, but taking your eye and gaining just one EMS, well it's still the same DNA (kinda like a relative's) but i doubt it will work... I think you need 4 eyes in order to obtain EMS... For example if Itachi were to get only one of Sasuke's eyes what would happen have one eye EMS and the other MS? Doubt it.
So no, this won't happen, at least in my opinion.

A transplant is still a transplant. Words do not change in definition. Theoretically, both siblings could obtain EMS, but in the scenarios we've been given, Madara went blind, and Sasuke did not have MS before Itachi's death.

Well since it wasn't stated in the manga that they needed BOTH pair of eyes, only their sibling's to be transplanted in order to obtain EMS I think it is a fair assumption that only the transplant is necessary.
If the pattern changes I think it's only because their MS pattern comes from THEM, it is imprinted in their DNA with the unique ability it gives them. But since those power origin from the eyes, when they get their sibling's they get their power as well, mixing with their own, therefore changing the pattern. This is my take on it.
I also think that Obito kept Sasuke's eyes somewhere, seeing how much he collects them. I mean, being an Uchiha himself, I would not be surprised if he saw those as perfectly good set with MS ready to use ( also they apparently have the tsukiyomi ability which is kind of necessary for his plan).
I'm actually wondering if the blindness carries over when transplanted because so far all eyes that have been transplanted do not seem to loose their light.
