Hello everyone. In the wake of current events in the manga (war, world unification, advanced techniques) I have been thinking about what has truly changed the ninja world the most. I am of the belief that it was the introduction of the ninja academy system throughout the villages. At it's simplest interpretation, the ninja academy is a place where children learn the skills necessary to begin a ninja career. As the ninja academy structure is based off of the Japanese elementary school, we know that comparable subjects are taught in the academy (history, science, geography, mathematics, reading/writing, physical education.) However, as the academy is preparation for an advanced mercenary career, the children are taught very specific skills (flora/fauna, scout survival, strategy/tactics, chakra studies, weapons, elementary tai/nin/genjutsu, etc.) Students show major differences based on supplementary clan assistance.
A less subtle interpretation of the ninja academy is one of an institution that produces a ninja based on that village's ideal concept of "ninja" is, with the lessons geared around the desired skills to reach those results, and the graduation test as verification. Genius takes an entire different meaning now, as it would mean that those individuals who were able to graduate within less than the expected 6 years were able to meet the village's acceptable standard for "ninja" much faster and younger than others (within a year for some characters.)
I would like to present questions to the forum. We have seen both the konoha academy and the konoha ninja (genin, chuunin, jounin,) so we can observe that the education style utilized is based on the Senju based mastery of all skills, and that the ideal was a ninja that encompasses "the will of fire." While we have only been shown the konoha academy in depth, in terms of other nations we are only shown their ranked ninja. My twofold questions are, based on the ranked ninja shown, what do you think was the ideal sought by the other major villages, and secondly what would be the academy skills taught to reach said ideal?
