if he tried to add his element to rasengan he obviously had one... another example of what you just said "he doesnt have one" is similar to

I'd Say Wind. Minato Passed Away Before He Could Apply His Own Chakra Nature To The Rasengan, And Seeing As Kakashi Tried With His Lightning Nature And Failed (Resulting In Chidori's Creation), The Only Conclusion We Can Make Is That Minato Possessed A Wind Nature (It Seems The Most Likely Out Of Fire, Water, & Earth Natures); If He Did Have A Lightning Nature, He Wouldn't Have Been Able To Apply It To The Rasengan Either.
