Anyway, Even if they were MS, thats just not how evolution works. A lizard cant unlock Dinosaur by training hard enough.
The MS and EMS are further evolutions of the Sharingan, which evolved from the Elder Son's Dojutsu, a weaker version of the rinnegan.
Whatever madara did to get the Rinnegan is probably the same thing that get the Sage rinnegan in the first place. Probably the most compatible DNA and Heavy Exposure to Juubi Chakra over a period of time.
