I too have only started a while ago but i've already caught up. I'd say alot more but i don't want to spoil it for you...
But in my opinion, the humour aspect of OP is alot funnier ( to me at least ) in the anime rather than the manga.
Anyways have fun catching up.

@abysmal: xd it's going well! I've passed the 100th chapter in my race against time! I might check out the anime as well, yhx for the tip~
Oda is a god we already decided that a couple of times in this section. The jawdropping chapters are yet to come oooooh awesome !! and twinkling eyes Sugooooi ! that's what you feel after a chapter of One Piece. And don't rush it ! that is sacrilege ! Enjoy your time reading/watching it Or you'll hate yourself in the end you have to wait a week for every chapter.

omfg! My stomach is hurting from all the laughter when Luffy and Sanji are at the Snow Castle being chased by an old doctor while chasing that reeindeer!! They never give upxd

I just started reading one piece. At first I was turned away by the art style, but after reading like the first few chapters I knew this manga was gonna be epic. What seriously got me hooked to this manga was one page. Just One Page, that page brought a tear to my eye, that one line of Zoros

Zoro is the most badass character of all time U_U though it's not like I'm biased or anything *looks at avy and signature* >.>
Don't forget that OP has 627 chapters, so of course the artwork has evolved a lot. Oda is one of the best artists around IMO. It may appear childish on some occasions, however he makes incredible complex panels and pays a lot of attention to details. Not to mention the flood of characters he created is ridiculous and you can still distinct them all from each other. In a lot of manga's all the characters just look way too much like each other.

What other character, I see plenty of those expressions among the less serious characters, but not so much with the serious ones.
Btw, i've already caught up with the manga.
