Nico Robin arrives in a puff of smoke, fireworks, and bouncing animals. It was obviously an illusion, and seconds later, the illusion disperses and the actual training ground was made visible. The hazy and mysterious cave, the prefect setting to learn such an ominous art. She walked swiftly towards the student who patiently sat down. "So, you wish to learn about the spectacular arts of creating Illusions? To begin, I'd like you to tell me everything and anything you know about Genjutsu in regards to the RP, and how it can be used in battle." Nico Robin waits patiently, eagerly waiting for the students' response.

Damn this amnesia and having to relearn everything. The Third Tsuchikage brings out his encyclopedia book titled "Narutopedia" and skims the genjutsu section before putting it back in his robe. Ahem. Genjutsu is the art of using illusions. To perform genjutsu one must somehow insert their chakra into a person's body, manipulate their chakra system, which in turn is used to manipulate their brain and 5 senses. Genjutsu according to the 2nd Mizukage is falls under Yin Release. I guess it doesnt in regards to the RP though.

Genjutsu cannot physically harm the body and all pain and experiences do not occur in the physical world. The Kurama clan's Kekkei Genkai can however cause genjutsus to happen in the physical realm.

The 3 Great Doujutsus are have ways to deal with Genjutsu. The Byakugan and Rinnegan can see ones own chakra which makes it easier to recognize when one is in a genjutsu. The sharingan has the ability to cast visual genjutsu via eye contact and see through genjutsu.

There are multiple ways to get out of genjutsu. One can kai themselves out of genjutsu with the exception being MS and EMS genjutsu. You must first recognize youre even in a genjutsu though. Other people can kai someone out of genjutsu. Pain can also break genjutsu.

In battle genjutsu can be used to distract the user, create openings for attacks, or in extreme cases such as Tsukiyomi; be used to put the target in a comatose state.

Well then...that was a mouthful.

"Alright, I will go into more details. There are two types of illusions, active ones that require chakra and passive genjutsus. They are like environmental and visual illusions, basically ones that affect the senses and are generally easier to escape. Active genjutsus include those from Sharingan, normal genjutsu, and sound genjutsu- these are more complicated and harder to deduce because they are generally more advanced and can even manipulate multiple senses. To successfully cast an illusion, you would need to gain control of the enemy's chakra flow in their cerebral nervous system, through your chakra obviously, which would allow you to affect one, or multiple senses out of the five senses. It is generally not a popular area of ninjutsu, but some like Uchiha's, or Kurama clan's are wellrenowned for their extremely advanced genjutsu usages. There are layered genjutsus, where breaking the first illusion will lead to a second one and is more complicated than a normal illusion because they mix two illusions into one. When creating layered illusions, you'd need to use the higher rank first to make sure both illusions are set in place, otherwise only the stronger illusion will be created.

Now tell me, how does one dispel an illusion?" Nico Robin eagerly asked, and afterwards, sat down as she patiently waited for the students' reply.

OOC: Yes, I'd like you to go into detail on the different ways to dispel, and to recognize an illusion.

In order to recognize a genjutsu one must know that it isnt real. For example if a genjutsu causes your worst fear to appear, it would help to maintain composure and realize that in a fight the chances of your fear appearing are slim to none. The Sharingan also helps see through genjutsu.

Pain is another way to dispel genjutsu. The caster or the target can cause this pain. Different levels of genjutsu require different levels of pain. D ranked genjutsu requires the pain equivalent of chipping ones finger. Low level physical attacks and biting your cheeks breaks C ranked genjutsu. Low ranked or freestyle taijutsu breaks B ranked genjutsu. Stabs to minor muscles, high ranked taijutsu, cuts, low level burns/voltages, and painful cold temperatures break A ranked genjutsu. EIG or Sage level taijutsu, breaking bones, deep stabs or cuts, medium burning/voltage, painful cold, and biting your tongue off breaks S ranked genjutsu.

I presume forbidden ranked Genjutsu is broken by the same things S ranked genjutsu is. I also heard that biting your tongue off causes you to bleed out in a few turns.

Lastly Kai. A person under genjutsu or another person can send a shock of chakra into the person under genjutsu's chakra system will hult or disturb their chakra system and break their genjutsu. The amount of chakra but be equal to that of the genjutsu. Sage mode, ninja with tailed beast, and releasing a curse mark can also break genjutsu in a similar manner by introducing foreign chakra into ones chakra system.

Alright, that is known as the Kai technique. To properly dispel an illusion, you need to figure out that you are actually in an illusion. This is down in two different ways. The first is the easiest- notice the fluctuation and the abnormal flow of your chakra. This is generally done through sensing techniques, like Dojutsu. The second one is more complicated and it is relying on your senses and using reasoning to figure out the abnormalities caused by the illusions. For example, if you see a giant flame fist coming your way in an illusion, and the illusion explicitly describes that it only affects the visuals, then you could reason that you did not feel the heat across your face. It is basically using reason to point out the differences from what real life is supposed to be, and what is happening in an illusion. This is more risky, however, because there is always a chance that you may get it wrong. For this training, we'll be practicing how you dispel an illusion through reasoning for each technique."

Nico Robin scrambled through a backpack as she continued to explain, "Alright, ways to break out of an illusion. We know of Kai, to disrupt your normal flow of chakra. Oh, these kinds of Genjutsu disruptor can also be performed to someone which is pretty useful in team fights. Some clans are naturally immune to Illusions though, like the Nekura Clan. Natural energy can disrupt an illusion, through Sage Mode, or Curse Mark activations. Some clans cannot use pain to disrupt an illusion for the most part, like Kaguyas because they are naturally used to pain and have developed a high tolerance for pain.

Another way is through Pain. Pain, if high enough, can "snap" you out of an illusion."
With a single hand motion, she unrolls the contents of the scrolls for the student to see.

D Rank Genjutsu: Chipping a Finger (like one does as he bites to draw blood for a Summoning Jutsu)
C Rank Genjutsu: Low level Physical Attacks, Bitting a chunk of your Cheek
B Rank Genjutsu: Low ranked Taijutsu/Freestyle
A Rank Genjutsu: High ranked Taijutsu, Stabbing Yourself in minor muscle, Cutting yourself, Breaking Smaller bones, Low level Burning/Voltage, Painful Cold
S Rank Genjutsu: EIG/Sage level Taijutsu, Breaking Bones, Deep Stabs or cuts, Medium Voltage/Burning, Extreme Painful Cold, Bitting your tongue off
"So, yeah. The content of the scroll shows the amount of pain needed to break out of certain-ranked genjutsus. This works on nearly everything, but of course, proper reasoning is required! And lastly, a full-body surge can disrupt an illusion and fend off foreign chakra from the enemy. Full-body surges are techniques that release chakra from all your chakra points, thus disrupting the abnormal flow and fending off the foreign chakra, sanctimoniously returning your chakra back to normal.

For some of your points - F-rank illusions. They are rare, and at most times, nonexistent besides Sharingan-based ones, or really old customs. Nevertheless, the Kai technique is only able to defend against up to S-rank illusions, and Forbidden rank full body surges can only defend against up to S-rank illusions, unless it is one empowered to be stronger than even a regular Forbidden Rank. Pain is always a way out, but for Forbidden ranks, it would have to be an immense amount of pain. Anyways, questions before we begin the real training? "

Nico Robin smiled with pleasure as she began explaining the first technique. "Alright first illusionary technique is one of the most simple one. Though the usefulness of it depends on how you use it. It requires no hand seals, therefore there is no way of knowing that an illusion was cast right off the bat. Send chakra to your enemy's chakra system which would cause it to disrupt the chakra system. Take control of the vision/eye area of the brain, and manipulate it so that you can alter the target's vision. You can change how the terrain looks, like make a sea of grass into a sea of water, however, it is only limited to visual senses. So, if you were to make the terrain into flames, then they'd only see flames, not feel the fire which would allow them to notice that an illusion is in play. You're only allowed to change how a terrain looks, and nothing else. Anyways, perform it on me. Once you're done, explain to me how you would create an illusion that would compliment, or work well with your follow up attacks, and explain the process in which you reason that my clone put you in an illusion." Nico robin creates a clone, and the clone sends chakra to your chakra system, disrupting it, and making you see that the cave walls and the cave in general would have turned into ice.

As Nico's chakra makes its way into the Tsuchikage's brain, he starts to see the cave turn into Ice. He notices that the temperature is still the same, just like Nico explained. He also can't see his breath. I guess its my turn.

The Tsuchikage concentrates and sends his chakra in Nico Sensei's brain. By controlling the vision center, I change the terrain to soft plush sand. If I'm doing this right Sensei, you should see sand below our feet. Anyway. My knowledge on jutsu is small but if I changed earth into water or water into earth, it would make it harder for my Opponent to predict where my doton or suiton jutsu are coming from. So I could use the jutsu to complement those elements because they come from the terrain.

Thats got me curious now. Can I disguise suiton and doton jutsu as well. Like can I create a doton pillar and and make it appear like its made of water. Also can I change the terrain to make it seem as if a cliff existed. In better terms can I create an absence of terrain?

"Great usage example. As for your question: It depends on the technique you used. If it is part of the terrain, for example, creating a pillar of earth, then yes you are able to use the technique and cast an illusion to change the appearance of the pillar, along with its surroundings if you'd like. If it is a projectile, stream, or anything not directly connected with the terrain, or is moving, then no you wouldnt be able to. Your explanation as to how you found out of the illusion was well, but you should do more than a single reasoning. You could argue that you don't feel like slipping, or that its unnaturalness for a cave to suddenly freeze into ice."

" Anyways, let's move on." Nico Robin performs a few hand seals, as a physical example to the student. "These five hand seals are needed for the next technique. It is also a visual based technique, thus it is easily noticed as a genjutsu. Simply perform the five hand seals and send chakra to my chakra system. The illusion itself is easy to understand. For the target, he would see you disperse into a shower of cherry blossom petals, which then surrounds the enemy to hinder their vision completely. This allows you to follow up with a whole set of combinations because the target would be unable to see you. Perform it, and tell me how you would attack after casting the illusion. But first things first..." Nico Robin suddenly disappears into a shower of cherry blossom petals - they surround you, and prevent you from seeing Robin. She slowly walks towards you, waiting to see how long it would take to figure out the illusion.

Under the genjutsu's effects, the Tsuchikage sees Nico Sensei disperse into an array of flower petals and becomes blinded by them. The the block The Tsuchikage's vision he notices something. Hmm. Well humans can't explode into hundreds of flowers. That right there indicates this is an illusion. Flowers are also known for their strong scents. With all of these flowers surrounding me, I should smell something but dont. That indicates this is a single layer visual genjutsu. Fair enough. The Tsuchikage chips his right thumb and breaks the genjutsu and sees that Nico Sensei never even moved.

Well I guess its my turn. The Tsuchikage performs five handseals while concentrating. At the same time he sends his chakra in the vision part of Nico Sensei's brain. He then turns into an array of flower petals that invade Nico Sensei's area of vision. Still concealed the Tsuchikage thinks about ways of using this to his benefit. Because this is a low level visual genjutsu my opponent with easilly see through and break it in no time. The window of opportunity is short so a fatal jutsu with little to no hand signs would be ideal. Kenjutsu and jutsu of ones affinity comes to mind. Since I don't know any , I will have to make due with this. The Tsuchikage pulls out a Kunai and makes his way torwards Nico Sensei while hidden in the illusion of flowers and puts his kunai to Nico Sensei's neck. He then ends the genjutsu. How was that Sensei? He then backs off.

"Wonderful job. I loved your deduction, it was certainly something new. Furthermore, because it is merely a visual based illusion, by blowing away the petals, it will be evident that you are in an illusion because of how they don't fall back, or fly off from you blowing into it - as opposed to real life petals that can be swayed by even the slightest winds. Just another way that you can tell that this is an illusion. Let's continue, keep up the great work."

Take out a paper tag - an explosive weapon that is used mostly with ninjutsu and assassinations, but can be applied in genjutsu as well. Perform a single handseal and send your chakra into the targets' chakra system, disrupting it at the same time allowing you to cast an illusion. Right after, throw the paper bomb towards the enemy. To the target, they would see a clone approaching at the speed of the paper bomb, and the paper bomb explodes once it reaches the enemy, or it can explode through a single hand seal, since it is merely a paper tag. Now, perform it to my clone, and I'll perform it towards you afterwards. Please describe how you dispel the illusion, and also, the disadvantage(s) of the technique." Nico Robin whips out a paper tag, ready to attack the student.

This jutsu seems a lot more dangerous. The Tsuchikage performs one hand seal and directs his chakra into the vision center of Nico Sensei's clone's brain. He then takes an explosive kunai from his robe and throws it at the clone. The clone perceives it as a clone. The explosive kunai hits its mark and explodes which disperses the clone.

The key to seeing through this genjutsu is being very observant. Sensei, you pulled your explosive kunai out before doing the jutsu. You're obviously not going to engage in CQC with it and risk losing your hand. You also have to perform a throwing motion of some sort before the clone(kunai) approaches me which gives off the genjutsu. Lastly, the clone won't interact with the environment. It would leave footprints or make sounds when its running towards. It won't dodge anything thrown at it and and object thrown at it would just phase through the clone.

Chipping ones finger will break the genjutsu. Now if I know its a genjutsu and knew my opponent threw something at me, it would be best to either avoid the clone or stop it in its tracks before I actually break the genjutsu. I have a question though. If I don't break the genjutsu, will I perceive every kunai thrown after the first one as a clone?

"Alright, near to perfection. And no, this technique is only a one time technique, so it only works on one paper bomb. I really liked your justification that it was an illusion, really creative. Though, you did forget the disadvantages. Do you see any?"

Yes. The user has to do a throwing motion and possibly will put the explosive kunai out before hand. Without a layered on genjutsu or some way of hiding the motion, it looks like the user is throwing nothing for no reason and now a clone running at me. To wrap it up, the genjutsu needs additional resources to mask the fact that its an illusion. Jutsu's like flower petal escape could mask throwing motion. If im understanding you right, if the target sees through the genjutsu and avoids the clone(kunai) then they don't even have to waste chakra or time to break the genjutsu and instead go in for a counter attack.

"Hm, you keep mentioning an explosive kunai but it is a paper tag, that detonates to an explosion. Seeing through the illusion and simply avoiding it is very dubious because it would be considered freeform, unless you mean that you were to avoid it through a technique, or directly counter it with a technique that would destroy the paper tags as well as continue towards the targets, then I suppose that would be plausible. Otherwise, the detonation of the paper tag would most certainly reach you if left undefended. The disadvantage for such an illusion that is reliant on an explosive tag is because it is thrown. The tag is pretty light, therefore its travel speed wouldn't be too fast, and if it were windy due to some techniques or natural weather, the clone may give off the illusion of a zig-zaggy movement, or not hit at all. Alas, we shall continue."

"Alright, let's continue." Nico Robin says, as she disappears in a puff of smoke and reappears behind a boulder of the cave. "This technique allows you to create numerous illusionary clones anywhere - from the ground, to the trees, and even at impossible angles. It acts as a distraction by making it seem like they are real close, when really, they are intangible. If they are struct, they appear to split in half and you can use this to co-ordinate attacks by, for example, throwing a kunai from behind an illusionary clone to make it seem like that clone was a real entity that actually attacked you. Get it?" Only seconds after the explanation, a mass of clones, all of which were illusions appear from the ground, seemingly merged with the ground. "How would you spot the illusion and ultimately break out of it, and perform it to me, who is behind this rock, and tell me how you would use this in battle."

I would spot this illusion by unknowingly attacking the clone and seeing it split like this. The Tsuchikage slashes a clone to observe the effects of doing so. The splitting of the clone tells me it isnt a shadow clone or a regular clone jutsu. Also since this is a visual genjutsu, the clone dont interact with anything. They don't leave or form holes in whatever object they come out of which would mean they are occupying the same space as other matter. There are jutsu that allow you to move through the ground or trees but those jutsu would make sounds and so the two mediums interact. The Tsuchikage chips his pinky to break out of the genjutsu.

He then starts concentrating and sending his chakra into Nathan Sensei's brain so that he sees clones come out of the ground and cave walls.

I would use Hiding Like A Mole technique to appear behind the opponent and attack. In combination with this jutsu, the opponent might possibly think im of no danger and just another clone. I havent actually learned that jutsu yet though. So I would have to use the kunai trick you mentioned earlier...except with raiton. I could use Raiton nojutsu to release multiple raiton bolts and make it seem as if my clones are doing the jutsu.

And for your question about the rock...Are you behind the rock? I don't think I'm understanding the question...
