I think it would honestly be nice to have an episode/or in manga that shows what Edo Tensei was first used for? As well as to find out how it got so famous?, Who was the first one reanimated? What purposes did it serve in the first shinobi world war? How did Madara know the handseals to it himself? What drove Tobirama to want to bring the dead back to life? How did he go about creating it? Do you think there should have been something that could shed light on Impure World Resurrection?

A lot of Jutsus are just created for the sake of power. Although this one is very different, so yes it would be nice to see why Tobirama invented this one.

He probaly did it so he could use the enemy's own troops against them.Think about for every dead enemy soilder Tobirama could revive them using Edo Tensei and use the enemy's own dead comrades to fight each other.

I don't think Hashirama would've approved of his brother creating a jutsu that sacrifices someone else's life just to bring him back.

On a strategic standpoint.. this was actually a genius jutsu when in the "right" hands. You use already fallen ninja to fight the wars either alone or mixed in with the still living ones, creating this massive and pretty much unstoppable army.

I think he made it because just like every other intellectual or idealist in this series, he was tired of seeing comrades dying.

Even Hashirama could be merciless, he DID basically slay Madara who was his friend (we all know Madara somehow survived, but for the sake of the story Hashirama thought he was dead).

Would it matter to Hashirama if he used the life of an enemy to bring him back?

Maybe an enemy who had been from Kirigakure or another hidden village with a vendetta against Konoha? I don't think Tobirama would have sacrificed just anybody to bring back his brother.

Probably not. If, for the sake of facing powerful opponents you needed help from a very powerful dead comrade to win, I am sure Hashirama wouldn't have complained.

He also doesn't seem to have a problem being reincarnated either. I doubt he knows that the body he is in is something made from his DNA and part of Akatsuki.

Madara stated the reason behind the techique creation was that tobirama would use recarnated soliders on the battlifield to use suicide techniques. technique got famous during tobirama era as he used it and gain renown for it.
Madara most likely what orochimaru did learned how to use the technique, and found the weakness to it

I had a theory or post about this once: after hashirama died, he made the jutsu to revive his brother in case madara came back to attack. He was a sensor and so probably knew madara was still out there even though hashi was sure he was dead xd either that or he had a lover

Tobirama couldn't have made edo tensei for bringing back Hashirama because when they were oth alive Hashirama told his brother not to create such a jutsu so my guess would be to bring back his other dead relatives or just for power because Hashirama was the more soft hearted one maybe Tobirama was kinda evil with intentions of protecting the village
