Edo Tensei and Madara's version of Rinne Tensei share very similar characteristics.
Ashes cover the sacrifice, killing him, to make the new body replaced by the resurrected Edo Tensei.
In Madara's Rinne Tensei, instead of Ashes covering the sacrifice, the will covers him, i.e the Black Zetsu, allowing the body to be a vessel for the newly revived.
In fact, I think the Edo Tensei is a prototype for this version of the Rinne tensei. Maybe that's why Madara knew more about the Edo Tensei then Tobirama, he probably influenced Tobirama with his EMS to make the Edo Tensei as a test run for this particular version of Rinne Tensei.
Some of you might say that Madara is revived over at Hashi's area. But then why did he switch?
Madara is over at where Naruto is and is using Obito's body as a vessel.
